This cartoon was fun and so was the series that followed. It was one of those great 1980's cartoons.
There are obvious similarities with Transformers and I think that Transformers was a superior cartoon but this was fun too.
Both the good Gobots and bad Gobots were a lot more 'human' than the Transformers. Scooter was my favourite throughout the series. Also, in the interests of equality we had a few 'female' Gobots.
Like other 1980's cartoon heroes the good Gobots were truly moralistic whilst the bad Gobots were really wicked with no redeeming features at all.
Those who have watched Transformers might not enjoy this as much but it can be enjoyed if you're in the right mood.

Growing up I love Transformers, everything about Transformers just hold my attention.
Only a few times that I got to see Challenge Of The Gobots now I am a huge fan of Hanna Barbera cartoons and they have created some of the most memorable series ever like "Yogi Bear" and "Scooby-Doo" Gobots came out as the main challenger to the popular Transformers.
Now this is not going to be a "Transformers is better" or "Gobots is better" review it just my thoughts on the series in general.
Challenge Of The GoBots did have some interesting ideas and characters in their own right they had some good episodes of the series as well.
The two factions at war were the Good Gobots known as the Guardians lea by Leader-One, some of The Guardians members are Turbo, Scooter, Small Foot, Path Finder, Van Guard, Road Ranger,Flip Top,Rest-Q, Heat Seeker and others. They were the protagonists of the series.
The Evil Gobots known as Renegades lead by Cy-Kill, some of the Renegades are Crasher, Cop-Tur, Fitor, Loco,Fly Trap, Bad Boy, Pincher, BuggyMan, Geeper-Creeper, Vamp and others.
The human characters: Matt Hunter, Nick Burns, Allison Janmoria "A.J." Foster, General Newcastle help the Guardians. Master Renegade help the Renegades.
Challenge of the Gobots feature some good stories for the series and some of the most interesting episodes of any TV show.
The Voice acting is pretty good with the talents of Lou Richards, Frank Welker, Peter Cullen,Brock Peters,Arthur Burghardt,Marilyn Lighstone, B.J.Ward, Kelly, Ward and others each one give the Characters some interesting voice effects and that's not something easy.
And the animation of the show is pretty good as well and smooth animation.
Yes Challenge of The Gobots was a challenger to The Transformers but The Gobots did have something going for it so if you are a fan of robots then check out Challenge Of The Gobots you might be surprise

I remember this cartoon. I was more Transformers obessed. Though, I liked Scooter and Cop-Tur.
Not a bad Cartoon. Transformers would be a better choice for your robots.

When I was a kid the rivalry between Gobots and Transformers was rather intense but I thought it was rather pointless, maybe even a little bit silly, because my kid brother and I had tons and tons of the Gobots toys when we were kids. It was another chapter in the pointless rivalry between Gobots and Transformers. Gobots started out small so the Transformers started out small. Transformers had bigger toys then Super Gobots were created. Then Gobots got their Power Warriors while Transformers had their robot combiners, gessalts. I didn't see the point of the Transformers versus Gobots thing when I was a kid and I don't see the point of the Transformers versus Gobots thing now.
Yes, if they made a live action version of this cartoon all they would have to feature is Leader-1, Turbo, and Scooter on the good side and Cykill, Copter and that evil car that may have been a gal on the evil side. The toys numbered probably close to the hundred the amount of robots and week after week these six were the only ones really focused on. Which is one of the reasons I did not like this cartoon as much as Transformers or that Mighty Orbots show this inferior show got canceled. The robots just shot lasers from their hands, they had a stupid plot device of only so many gobots could transport to earth at a time hence why there was only the six old standbys (you know it was mainly cause it was easier to draw the same characters week after week), Scooter was lame and considering he could not shoot lasers you would think the bad guys would have a major advantage till you realized their leader was simply a motorcycle while the good leader is a fighter jet. Another thing that bugged me about the show, all the toys were relatively small and affordable. Yet they had certain ones called deluxe Gobots who were fairly expensive and bigger than the other normal sized ones, but for some reason in the cartoon they made these Gobots smaller than their counterparts. What the heck was up with that?

- TriviaA significant difference between the Gobots and Transformers is... While the Transformers are sentient machines, the Gobots are actually cybernetic. As the show would reveal they were once humanoids, who underwent cyber conversion after the Renegades caused a global disaster that made Gobotron's ecosystem inhospitable to organic life.
- GoofsThroughout the shows run. The Renegade Screwhead's face would very from his first appearance in episode two. Ranging from either having a face visor or eyes. Or even his mouth animated differently.
