This game came out on the original Nintendo system and was supposed to be controversial or something, but it really just plays out like your typical game during the time except for the fact every now and then Jason comes out to kill you. Really though you are attacked by more than him as snakes and other critters come after you, like you needed the extra challenge. There are horrible boat scenes, you have to rescue the kiddies, and then you face off against Jason in a shed almost Punch Out style only you get to use machetes and such on him. If you do manage to take his health all the way down he only comes back like one of his bad sequels and you must face him all over again and he is even stronger than before. So in the end you have your typical Nintendo game that is incredibly hard and challenging. I would have rather been Jason hunting the teens and killing them as that would have just been more fun as it would have been different for the time.
Rated T for Violence.
I enjoy the Friday the 13th horror series.I actually liked the film Freddy Vs Jason.I have not seen all the Friday the 13th movies but I have seen some.Anyway I used to have an NES Emulator on my computer. One of the games I got for it was the Friday The 13th NES game.I played it and I was disappointed especially after having played the fairly good Nightmare On Elm Street game.Maybe for 1989 the game was pretty scary and you could walk on foot and drive boats but other than that the game has no redeeming values. The graphics are not very good even for the NES.The gameplay is sort of boring and pretty hard. All you do is see bad guys pop up and kill them with rocks.Definitely not worth your time.If you want a good horror game for the NES then play Nightmare on Elm Street. That game was actually pretty good.Don't bother with this one even if you're a big fan of Friday the 13th.

This is a great game, one of the hardest the NES had. It took me a long time to beat it and Jason's random pop-up's were cool and it had good music, good controls, and it was an overall challenging and fun game. But...the original concept of the game would have been 100 times cooler. Originally you would be able to play as either the counselors or Jason! I would have loved to go around hacking up peeps Jason Voorhees style, that would have ruled! The only complaint I had was this, those damn counselors sure did look happy to be at camp blood don't you think. The ending could have been better too, but oh well.
Obviously, the people who designed this game didn't take the time to study the films (or probably didn't watch them). But other than that this game is a great challenge. Adding Jason's Mother's head was a great touch and kept the first film remembered.
The concept behind this game was very good. The creators even made this 8-bit game fit the creepy mood they were supposed to but c'mon man! The ending stinks! You go through hell to finally kill Jason, then he comes back, then you kill him again, then he comes back again, then you kill him a 3rd and final time, and basically the ending is comprised of a few words and a "The End" title. Oh well, that's 8-bit games for ya.
