David Lean's Film of Doctor Zhivago

Here's one of the promotional films issued in advance of the release of David Lean's film of.... well, I'm sure you can guess.

It concentrates on Boris Pasternak's writing of the novel, and the difficult process of getting the book published. Pasternak's novel was denied publication in the USSR, and it won the Nobel prize for him regardless. The novel was smuggled out and published in Italy.

Eventually, this short gets onto the subject of making the movie, its casting, and shooting. The short makes the most of the care and excellence of all connected with it. Into shots from the film are edited promotional material.
