Want to see Jurassic Park style special effects and Oscar caliber acting? I can recommend a lot of movies for you...but this is not one of them.
That however, is not a knock of this movie. Curse of the Komodo is a low budget romp and it serves it's purpose. It entertained me for 90 minutes, just as it was meant too.
My review. Not as good as the 'original', but still entertaining. It had it obligatory boob scene (rather pointless) and women in tight shirts, buff guys and baaad military guys. Did I mention the horrendous special effects? These FX would not have been out of place in the 60's! Bullerproof lizards, zombie creating slime, bank robbers and corrupt military officers, buff guys and buxom women, stock footage of big boats...what more could a movie want?

Not much to write about...
It has everyone's favorite Adonis, the one and only Sir Paul Logan..
And a nice swimming scene in a very picturesque lake where the Norks frolic at will.. out and about.. just living their best Nork life.
That's it.
Komodo looked cool .. needed to do a little more.. kinda stood around like a half sucked marshmallow most of the time.
Paul Logan.

However flawed the visuals of this film are, labeling them bad wouldn't be fair. As a monster movie, obviously, "The Curse of The Komodo" does resort to computer generated images. They don't look good, but they don't look bad either, they look decent, for a low budget movie, at least. And they don't occupy too much screen time. There are some practical effects, namely, the makeup. It has little screen-time, but looks really good. There is some footage here and there that was clearly taken from something else, rather than filmed for this movie, specifically. Unless you can recognize it because you've seen it before and remember where it comes from, it shouldn't be a problem. John Carpenter's "The Thing" has a scene where the main characters are shown watching some VHS tapes. In the film, those tapes act as scientific footage from a research station. In reality, those are scenes from an older "The Thing" move. This doesn't seem to be a problem to anyone. The picturesque locations and the cinematography here do their job just fine, and "The Curse of The Komodo" doesn't really look bad. Nor does it sound bad. There aren't many sound effects or music, but where they are, again, they are just fine. The package of this film isn't bad. All it needed was a bigger budget.
As for the content, the story here has scientists, criminals and the military interact in one critical situation. It's clear who is what and things are nicely put together in a way that may have you thinking and asking yourself who really is the evil here. Again, this is a "B" movie, but the plot here isn't necessarily just a handful of clichés. The characters do come across as real human beings and you can feel for them here and there. The actors are no problem, Tim Abell, especially. What can be a real problem is the very last action scene in the film. It suffers from both the budget and the screen writing. It's not like the point isn't clear, it's just the details that look clumsy. Either way, this movie does not have enough strength to it to make it straight up good. But it isn't plain bad either.
