Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus

I saw this game on shelves many years ago and was keen on the new character of Sly Cooper, but I had a Gamecube, not a PS2, and thus it was not an option. With the new HD remaster available I gave the game a chance and, while it's a bit dated in terms of gameplay, it is a fun and non-stressful.

You play as the titular raccoon, a master thief from a long line of master thieves who travels the world on various heists while fighting multiple anthropomorphic furries. It reminded me a lot of the Scooby-Doo games of the same era. The only thing that bugged me was the horrendous voice-acting from the guy who actually plays Sly. He was just awful, and since the cut-scenes are unskippable you HAD to listen to him.

Quite easy for the most part though, and a fun game that won't have you tearing your hair out.

Sly Cooper is definitely one of the best plat formers ever made for the Playstation 2. This game has excellent graphics, great sound effects and music, and upbeat voice acting. The other good plat formers for the PS2 are Pac-Man World 2 and Jak and Daxter (even though I haven't played it yet).

In the storyline for this game, Sly receives the Thievius Raccoonus, a book written over generations by members of the Cooper thief clan, from his father on his eighth birthday. But the Fiendish Five, a gang of ruthless criminals led by the mysterious cyborg owl Clockwerk, kill Mr. Cooper, steal the Thievius Raccoonus, and rip it into 5 sections of pages. Sly then lives in an orphanage for 10 years, where he befriends tech genius turtle Bentley, and and cowardly hippo Murray. Together, they work to get back the Thievius Raccoonus and destroy the Fiendish Five. There is also Carmelita Fox, an attractive police chief hell-bent on capturing Sly.

The game has a lot of fun sub-games like the one where you move a gun and shoot enemies to help Murray make a run for the key, and one where you participate in races in order to get the key. My favorite sub-game is where I move Carmelita's gun in order to shoot away lava slugs in order to make Sly retrieve his cane. They are absolutely fun and entertaining.

There are also a lot of unlockable Sly movies, e.g. when you get all of the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus, it shows that Sly is now a master thief. My favorite unlockable is the Japanese version of the first Sly Cooper movie, because the animation and art style is far more refined and smoother than the original English movie, and the Japanese speech sounds a lot better than the English speech.

By far, Sly Cooper is THE definitive plat former for the PS2, and I can't wait for the sequel, where you would pick from Sly, Murray, or Bentley. I give this game a 10/10.

This game is very good for it's generation but it don't passes the second game the second is the best of the series. I like the final boss because he's very powerful and you must go to the first level to collect lives in order to beat him. And believe me this is the last game i played from the series. First i played Sly 2 then Sly 3 and finally Sly 1. They were all great. I can play them all because i own the Sly Trilogy for the PlayStation 3. The only bad thing about this game is the lives you must collect a few in order to beat hard bosses. But play this game is very good and it contains amazing stages. My favorite is Ruby's swamp.

Animals, Cartoonism, Film Noir, Crash Bandicoot gameplay, this game has it all. I just got the PS Vita and the Sly collection simultaneously, and I love the whole concept of it all! Sly Cooper is a very interesting video game character, like a Racoon version of Robin Hood, only stealing from other thieves. Of course there are many other great characters as well. From Murray the powerhouse, to the nerdy genius Bentley (the real show stealer with his quirky dialogue) and don't forget the lovely, not to mention volatile tempered Carmelita Fox (who doesn't have a crush on this babe?). Don't forget the memorable Fiendish Five have their own quirks as well, my personal favorites are the Panda King (while being relatively easy, he's got a cool voice and moves) and Mz. Ruby (her Simon-Says Voodoo game just oozes style). The only negatives I can say is that I'm not too fond of one-hit-kill deaths since I find them annoying though at least you get unlimited continues, and the other is the game is pretty short. Other than that, this is a good game that started a franchise.

If you a fan of the popular classic Platform PlayStation 1 games like Spyro(mostly),Crash Bandicoot or Jack and daxter,this game is for you! But this game gets many elements from Spyro, This is why: Portals: you enter levels by portals to different levels. And they make a sound when your near one. Thats spyro the dragon reference. HomeWorlds:Like Spyro, The levels are connected the Homeworlds where you enter levels,gain extra lives and lucky charm. But they are only entered if you beat the first level. And also you cant access the whole home world without obtaining certain amount of keys for the locks. Thats a reference to spyro ripto rage. Characters:don't Bentley and Murray eyes look familiar to ya ll? It looks like spyro or aku aku eyes. Slys health:Just like those platform games i mentioned, spyro health was the color of sparx and crash health was how strong aku aku is, the brigther his feather is,the more hit points you have. Sly's health is how bright the lucky charm is. And its similar to sparx health.Because when he gets Hit,his aura changes color. Collectibles:well you collect clues to get new abilities: No references.you collect keys to end the level: that's a reference to spyro ripto rage.You collect coins which 100 gives you a lucky charm: no references. Enemies:well enemies may be difficult to defeat but if you follow its pattern and movement,it will be a piece of cake! Abilities:sly can jump and use other stealthy moves.its like gaining abilities from spyro ripto rage. Thats all there is! Well time for my review: Story:The story is about Sly's life and his family history. But it was torn apart when the fiendish fives arrived and killed his parents.So without his parents,he was sent to orphanage where he met his two best pals Murray and Bentley! They play stealth games,stealing and robing. All sly's life he's been doing it to the good. But he decided to do the right thing this time for his family and his life! He decided to get revenge on the fiendish five with the help with his friends to get the pages of the book the fiendish five stole back!The stories are divided into each chapter and thats each home worlds. So the story is pretty good.no problem.score:7 Characters:the characters are great!you have Sly the doing,Bentley the genius and Murray the hulk! They all put their abilities to use to solve the crimes!But Bentley gets overprotected of sly sometimes!Score:8 GamePlay: Its fun.
