The movie Babu is a character sketch. Babu is a poor man who feels indebted to a rich man because the rich man once treated him with compassion. Later, when he finds that the rich man has died and has left his widow and daughter destitute, he spends all his life working hard to support them despite being poor himself. In order to have money to support them, he does not marry and so he has no family to take care of him when he is old. He spends his money to educate the daughter of the widow. After the daughter completes her education, he helps her marry the man of her choice. He dies on the day of her marriage because of his illness which he has ignored and left untreated to save money. The widow and her daughter respect him a lot for the sacrifices he has made for them.

The movie focuses on emotions of humanity, gratitude, sacrifice, pride, and self-respect.

The movie also shows how hard it is for a poor man to sustain his life and make progress.

All the actors have done good acting.

The music is good.

This is an excellent movie central characterized by the Super Star Actor and Pride of the Film Industry- Mr. Rajesh Khanna, the king of love and emotion. The character characterized by him in this film as a Riksha Pooler is an unique example of classic performance. No body in the Indian cinema would have been able to do justice with this character, which is full of emotion and human relation based only on humanitarian ground. In my opinion, it is one of the landmark films of Rajesh Khanna, where he performed a character, which is totally non-glamorous character. It is unbelievable that it is the same performer who performed in the glamorous characters in Prem Nagar, Amar Deep, Dhanwaan, Red Rose, etc.

Babu is the remake of a tamil film by the same name with the legendary Sivaji Ganesan playing the title role. It was directed by A.C.Trilokchander who also directs the Hindi version.

It is a good emotional role & suits Rajesh khanna perfectly. He plays a rickshaw puller who supports a family which has lost its bread winner. The film is well directed & all the supporting actors - Mala Sinha, Rati agnihotri etc have done well. Deepak Parashar however is wooden.

Hema malini plays a guest role.

Music By rajesh roshan is average. The minus point is the sometimes slow pace of the film & dialogue by Amrish Puri is quite preachy at times.

The film took a fantastic initial of over 80% collections in the 1st week, but it fell in the 2nd week & subsequently settled to an average hit category.

This film is a must watch for audiences who like family fare sans violence or vulgarity.

Babu released in 1984 was an emotional tear jerker which was a remake of a Shivaji Ganeshan super hit. Babu revolves around the central character Babu played by Super Star Rajesh Khanna. Babu is a rickshaw puller in Calcutta who starts to care for a family which had fed him once and are now facing financial problem. Bauu sacrifices his youth and his life for the sake of the family. The movie has excellent performance by Rajesh Khanna who has acted in his usual style steals the show in an era when there were violent, multi starer movies which were a major hit. He is ably supported by Hema Malini, Navin Nishchol, Mala Sinha, Rati Agnihotri,Madan Puri and Roopesh Kumar. The music by Rajesh Rohan is melodious and I would recommend this movie to all people who like to see family dramas. It is a must for Rajesh Khanna's fans as he acts in his usual style and steals the show and makes the audience wet their handkerchief.

I got chance to watch this movie yesterday.The story was about a man name Babu who is a honest,self respect man who devote his life for the sake of a girl name Pinky.There was so much emotion in this movie that tear began falling from eyes.Rajesh Khanna is a true genius and one of the legendary actor who has graced the silver screen with many best movies.In this movie also he has given one of the best performance and totally given justice to the role he has played.If anyone thinks amir khan is perfectionist please watch Rajesh Khanna movies and he will know who is perfectionist.I highly recommend this movie and other movies like Amrit,Avtaar,Swarg to everyone who wants to see the real performance of an actor.
