This short film marks a return of the original Lord Farquaad. Good for fans of the first film who want more.
I was in Hollywood in the summer of 2003 and I saw this when I visited Universal Theme park. This was a funny "ride" as you watched the 3-D video on the giant theatre screen the chairs moved along with the movie, like when the carriage the characters were riding in went over a bump in the road the seats shook as if you were riding in the carriage alongside the characters in the movie.and when donkey sneezed, you felt a spray of water hit your face.and in the scene where there are spiders crawling on the ground you feel something brush your leg.A real fun experience to both young and old.
This takes place right after Shrek and Fiona marry. The ghost of Farquad had his dumb henchman kidnap Fiona--as the dead guy is STILL determined to marry her. But, as she's alive and he isn't, he needs to have her killed first. Can our heroes rescue her before it's too late?
I was very surprised to see this film on DVD and on Netflix, as it originally was just intended as a 3-D film that is still being shown at Universal Studios. I've seen the film several times at Universal Orlando and when you see it on TV it loses not only the 3-D but the immersive theater experience. Rumbling seats and effects that take place throughout the theater are missing. Still, it's worth seeing. I'd give it a 7 in its none 3-D mode (yes, I know they say it's 4-D but ask any physicist about this) and a 9 at Universal Studios.

This ride isn't half bad. Though it tends to reuse jokes from the film, it's still got cool fx and you feel the action (when Donkey sneezes, for example, the audience is sprayed). It's not the best ride at Universal- that's of course Spider-Man. But it's fun if you can avoid the long lines.
This is the only movie I've seen in 4-D, and I never forgot it! "4-D" is basically a cinema with special chairs that move, squirt water, and emit smells (complete with 3D glasses)
Te movie itself is pretty forgettable, but if you ever get the chance to see a 4-D movie, then check it out for the experience!

- TriviaWhen the attraction opened in Universal Orlando in 2003 it only used up half of the original building, but the crowd waiting to see the attraction generated enormous wait times. Universal decided to build an exact mirror image to the ride in the other half of the theater to reduce wait times which opened in the spring of 2004.
- GoofsWhen Shrek and Donkey are flying on Dragon they see the princess at 11:00, but Shrek says "Princess, three o'clock".
- Alternate versionsWhen the short was released on Netflix and the Shrek's Thrilling Tales DVD under the name "The Ghost of Lord Farquaad", the scene where Donkey says "Wow, this 3D is pretty cool!" was cut due to the short being released in 2D.
