I'm not sure why this is rated 2.3

Anyone who approaches a movie based on Sasquatch must know:

1) It is not going to be a large budget film 2) There are not going to be any recognizable stars 3) Nothing in the movie can be construed as complete fact 4) It's not going to win any awards

Thus, a movie such as this needs to be approached with an open mind and low expectations.

I read one good review here when I saw it was going to be on Showtime Extreme (542 on DirectTV), so I decided to watch.

What I saw was somewhat interesting. The acting was not bad and a few actors actually did a really fine job. On top of that, there was a good mix of some light-hearted humor, a couple times I laughed out loud, not out of sheer stupidity, but original humor.

The movie could have done less with the stupid rednecks. I did like the close-up scene with the bear, and not knowing what Sasquatch truly looks like, I had no problems with what I saw.

I guess if people go into this with high expectations, they're going to end up disappointed, but if you take it for what it is, it's not a waste of time.

I could see Hollywood making a larger budget film out of the Sasquatch legend and put a couple (somewhat) big(ger)-named actors in it. I mean, if some hacks can make the Blair Witch Project and manage to turn that pile of crap into a blockbuster smash, why not something that has some plausibility?

I gave it a 7 because I want to help see the rating of this film climb. I probably do not think it deserves more than about a 5 of 10, but it's certainly better than 2.3.

Like someone else said, grab a girl, and cuddle up with some popcorn. At times she'll hold you close, and other times you'll both laugh together.

There is a sasquatch in it, lurking somewhere in the background

Somewhat weak bigfoot story involving a group of randy kids going out into the wilderness to investigate a supposed bear attack, a group of hunters out to kill the same bear (who supposedly killed their friend's group) and a local ranger, and a Native American park ranger wandering around doing something. Oh yeah, plus you have a mayor worried about "tourist season" and hassling the sheriff to resolve these problems. And largely to the side-lines is an angry sasquatch.

Like most natural horror, there are shades of Jaws in this although it more lampoons the concept. Although the acting is notoriously weak for the park ranger and rednecks, the "teens" at least manage to act like teens. The token eye candies are likable and the token jock is humorous enough, but the nerd protagonist is kind of annoying and something of a jerk. Oddly enough, there's some whole subplot involving the kid's father that barely gets touched upon (in the beginning his mom is all like, "You have to spend time with your father!" then later on he's telling the other teens, "I don't have a dad").

Also unresolved is the whole issue of the sasquatches. Yeah, there are at least two there. At first glance it would seem one was dead (since it was buried), but maybe the other sasquatch was killing to protect an injured one (as you see it ambush the hunters in the beginning). On the lighter side, I do like how much of the film seemed to rely on implication which is a rarity in budget productions. As for the monster itself, the costume looks even worse than the one in Abominable. It's really not all that frightening-looking despite mauling and killing at least five people during the film while menacing a bunch more.

The general denouement is rather weak. The ending only minimally involves the sasquatch and you really get the feeling that he was just a background character during the whole film.

Great creature, week story

Take Jaws, replace the beach with the woods, and the shark with a bigfoot, mix with a bit of "Pumpkinhead" and there's your movie. VERY run of the mill storyline, with nothing new in terms of plot to edge it out over any other creature movies. That being said, the acting is decent, not the best, but certainly better than most direct to video genre fare, the movie is shot well enough, with a nice moody atmosphere, and the creature suit and make-up is wonderful. You never really get a feel for any menace with the creature, as he just kind of lumbers around, and all his major action is shot pov through its eyes, but thats okay. Fun movie to catch on cable, but unless you are a die hard monster fan who likes to see a well executed monster, save your money.

Not bad

The acting was surprisingly good. The weak part was the seldom seen monster. I usually despise teenagers in movies, but very little swearing here from the teens. Its not Gone with the Wind, but.....Give it a try
