Even though the plot was original, you have to give it that. I thought it was entertaining. Vin was acting at his peak. He did the role of Toorop much justice in a Vin sort of way.
There are many reviews that I have read over the web and frankly I'm surprised. Call me going against the grain but I was impressed. I think the problem is that people go into movies with preconceived ideas as to what is "supposed to happen" according to how their mind sees the trailers and previews. Just sit back and enjoy, don't look for flaws, don't expect something that isn't there.
TV Guide did have this to say: 'For all its generic qualities, Babylon A.D. is well acted, briskly paced and consistently clear: Like Neil Marshall's Doomsday, it's bare-bones genre entertainment, no better or worse than it ought to be.' I rest my case.

I have just seen a great movie: Babylon A.D. (extended) with full blu-ray detail.
If you're into photography and grading, rough edges and detail, this one is for you.
The story is interesting and well thought out, with a nice level of "complicatedness". I could say it leaves a few - just a few - questions. But seeing it again would probably fill in the blanks.
I loved the sets, moods, landscapes and journey these 101 minutes set you back for.
The acting is very good. Vin Diesel owns the part, he's just great in what he does. Melanie Thierry is perfectly cast as well and looks absolutely stunning.
I'm almost forgetting the editing, which is very, very well done. (How could anyone cut into this well edited extended version??? Those studio execs ... fools ... haha)
To conclude, the direction is superb, leaving space for talent, beauty, feeling and details one easily would overlook in this kind of production. We're not just talking about action here, its drama as well, and it's obviously brought by someone with a good sense of refinement and detail.
I came to this movie expecting nothing, having read 2 bad reviews here. But the opposite is true. This might have been different if I had seen the shortened version, which I never plan to see because the feature I just saw was awesome and close enough to perfection in its genre.

I thought this was an excellent movie, be it in it's own genre (action). The scenery is absolutely awesome, there's a lot of attention to detail in everything you see, all visual aspects of the movie are really taken care off. Furthermore, it has everything an action-movie of this kind should have: spectacular explosions, wild chases, tough one-liners and a beautiful girl, even if it's not a glossy magazine model. Vin Diesel plays the part he plays in every one of his movies, the tough but kind guy who's tortured by his past. But he plays this role very well, so its certainly enjoyable. There's also the funny element ("A car will come and pick you up". A chopper drops a car on the ground, Diesel gets in and the chopper flies away with the car) that's not over the top, but not underplayed either. As in every action movie, the story represents nothing, it's merely a thin reason for showing off muscles, toughness and visual effects. It's the 13 in a dozen cliché of tough guy gets hired to deliver a girl to bad guy etc. The only disappointing aspect of the movie was the ending, i thought the ending was really silly. They should 've come up with something funkier.
All in all, i really enjoyed it. It's not my genre, but i do appreciate watching one like this every now and then.

I guess I'm the only one who really liked this movie.. I liked it a lot. It's strictly Sci-Fi, it's different, it's a movie with a plot that's not figured out from the start of the show, and there are a lot of well done fight scenes.
I watched the uncut extended DVD version. Maybe the theatrical release left too many holes in the plot. Rent the 'un-cut' DVD..
I liked the storyline the best. No spoilers here. The plot moves in a definite and unique direction, and every few minutes you'll think you have it figured out, but you'll always be wrong. Other than Vin I didn't recognize the other actors, but they all played like veterans..

I's really weird to see so many negative responses to this film. I was enjoying every minute of it from beginning to the end. It is usual situation when you're watching the movie which contains 3-4 key moments in which producers put almost all budget and somehow produced other parts just to fill the timeline, but it's not about this! Watching Babylon A.D. you watching the Film, not a mix produced from different scenes. Quality of the picture and sound is very good. Only annoying thing is a lot of classical music, which is absolutely unnecessary. And some things about Russian and Russians, being a native I found funny (like tattoo on wrist), anyway it happens often
