Oh yeah, the story is about crews that challenge each other to "dance-offs." Really, it is.
If you want respect, you've got to take it?
Indeed, and let me add:
If you want a good movie, you've got to make it.
I did indeed get served. I big plate of PoopKababs.
I'm a big fan of the dancing. I spent many a night during my youth, glued in front of the tele, watching Solid Gold. Now that show had some dynamite dancing. And the costumes. Lordy! Lordy! Lordy! The dancing on this movie makes me think the choreographer was a 15 year old pimply faced chump named Herbert. Julia Styles is a better dancer than these kids. So is Urkel.
Would it have killed them to have some tap dancing? Maybe some Savion Glover? Now that dude can dance.
A plot line wouldn't have hurt either. Footloose is like Casablanca compared to this "film".
The only dancing I did, was on my way out of the theater, and into a better movie. ie. any movie.
The dancing looked good. I commend the people in the movie for their talent, but the movie stank. Like an old septic system. The acting was substandard at best, the direction poor, timing lousy and the characters were 2 dimensional. Not to mention that the "competition" movie is a terrible cliche.
I wanted to write a better review, but I feel as if a percentage of my brain wasted away while watching this horrible thing.
Don't bother with it.
This one is about being young, about music, and above all: about dance. And it is a good one in the latter. So stop whining about the shortcomings of the story (if any at all). It's about dance, and man, can they dance!
I can actually imagine people think this movie really sucks. But hell, if one does not want to look at a dance movie, why go and see this one?
This movie is not a pretentious one. So why judge it on something that it is not trying to be (A great movie with a great story).

- TriviaAll of the film's battles were very competitive in real life. The fight that breaks out during the first battle with Wade's crew was not in the script, but everyone was so mad at each other that they just started fighting. While filming the opening battle, the director would yell "cut", but Omarion kept battling with Columbus Short. Omari does a back flip, while at the same time Columbus does a move that looks like he is pulling David up. This was not in the original choreography; it was a true battle.

Mr. Rad: Get yo' head up. You lost the money, it's gone. But, you can't lay around in yo' misery too long. Do *not* walk outta' this place and start to second guess yo' talent. You got yo' ass whooped tonight. But, I done seen y'all whoop a many a ass, right in the same place. Now, you lost. Lemme tell you somethin' my father told me, is: "If it don't kill you, it makes you stronger". Remember that.
