In Childhood, this cinema was always a collective and enchanting experience. It never bored me and I enjoyed watching it. But as I grow up started learning about film language, this film becomes more interesting to me.
Tapan Sinha, tells us a simple family drama in very much in his own unique way. But it conveys a universal message of simplifying our lives.
At this time, when we all are isolated someway, mostly having no humanly contact (touch), this film helps to stay afloat. It delivers a message of universal brotherhood - in a metaphor of Bengali family in 1966 Bengal. When Bengal was going through turmoil like student & food revolution.
But, Tapan Sinha want us value the small things in our life rather then materialistic possessions. The true happiness comes from being with family and from inside.
Kudos to Sinha for making such film which is still so relevant to our contemporary depreciating society.

The story has a similarities with The Bishop's Wife and It's a wonderful life. But the scenario is purely Indian. And the problems solved here are without any miracle.

"Galpa Holeo Satyi" is a timeless Bengali classic that has become a cult favorite among audiences. Directed by Tapan Sinha, this 1966 film is a beautiful blend of comedy and drama that explores the complexities of middle-class joint families in Kolkata. The story revolves around a mysterious servant who brings joy, love, and compassion into the lives of a dysfunctional family, only to disappear suddenly, leaving behind a trail of happiness and reunited relationships.
With its engaging narrative, the film highlights the daily struggles and conflicts of a middle-class family, while also showcasing the rhythm and variety found in everyday work. The characters are well-crafted, and the performances by Bhanu Banerjee, Jogesh Chatterjee, and Rabi Ghosh are noteworthy. The film's humor is subtle yet effective, making it a delight to watch.
One of the standout aspects of "Galpa Holeo Satyi" is its thoughtful portrayal of family dynamics and relationships. The film shows how a single person can bring about a positive change in the lives of others, and how love and compassion can overcome even the most daunting challenges. Set against the backdrop of 1960s Kolkata, the film provides a glimpse into the city's tumultuous past, with references to trade unions and leftist ideologies.
The film's success can be gauged from its remakes in other languages, including Hindi ("Bawarchi" in 1972), Tamil ("Samayalkaaran" in 1974), and Kannada ("Sakala Kala Vallabha" and "No 73, Shanthi Nivasa" in 2007). This is the best of Sinha, no doubt. Not only among the great fives, but this is one of the best original movies made by any Indian director. This movie has been adapted in multiple languages. Now I can recall about at least five movies inspired this one. I know whoever is reading the review must have watched this film, but if not, disconnect from internet and buy the film as the first thing - this is not a request, an order.
