Udhaya

3/10

Interesting premise ruined by shoddy screenplay and execution.

Udhaya is another movie that has had a long and torturous journey from production to release. Launched way back when Vijay and Simran were a hot pair, the movie was stalled for various reasons and finally released. The end result is a teething movie of its times that is supposed to be released in the late 90s but ended up 8 years later in the wrong times.

The whole premise has been wasted on run of the mill screenplay and shoddy execution.Only one or two of Rehman's tunes are real catchy. Background score is abysmal.

Had potential but proved to be a mess

Udhaya spent so much time setting up its story that it had barely any to take it forward. A romance that lacked heart, a protagonist's backstory that didn't really come together and random elements that led nowhere makes this film a disjointed mess.

Surprisingly, AR Rahman's music is abysmal, except, perhaps for the "Udhaya Udhaya" song that is passable.

The film's execution reminds one of Nenjinile, another movie that could've been an excellent piece of Tamil cinema but ended up on the list of forgettable Vijay films.
