Madame Butterfly

Half a dozen Japanese women and one man capture a butterfly and place her in a cage. They perform a dance with parasols. Later, they leave the butterfly and a black moth comes in and dances with the butterfly. Later, there is a repetition of ANNABELLE'S BUTTERFLY DANCE and one performed by several of the ladies.

This is a primitive-looking film for 1906, replicating as it does, various movies that dates back for everyone on a dressed stage. Nonetheless, there is something for everyone: sex (the captured butterfly is in a costume that shows off her figure); bondage (she is held in place by a ribbon around her leg, which her dancing winds around her entire body); art (the butterfly and parasol dances); and most important, extensive tinting in several colors, still a major special effect a dozen years into commercial movie releases.
