By far the most entertaining SNES game for one player!!!!!!!

I love this game. Personly i find it, one of the greatest games of all time for SNES. Its definitely a game for the brains, though. You must find key cards to open doors. You must find 20 or so eggs scartted about the island(a lot like GTA, with the hidden packages.). You play as Doctor Grant, your missions include: Restoring Jurassic Park, Turning your radar on, finding 20 eggs, clearing the ship of dinos, and destroying the raptors nest. And other missions pop up as you play on. A cool feature is how your in a terrific 3rd person mode outside, and 1st person inside. Highly entertaining and fun. It takes a long time, and yes is boring at times, but the music is sweet, the graphics are great, and you get a good variety of weapons. :-) Script: 30 (30%) Fun: 90 (90%) Complexity: 10 (10%)

Quickly walk away from the dinosaurs!

No game is perfect. This game is good and bad. There are some good things about it and some bad things.

You play as Alan Grant. The point of the game is to make it off of Jurassic Park alive.

You have a gun of some kind that can fire two different types of shells at dinosaurs.

All of the main dinosaurs from the movies are there, Velociraptor, Dilophosaurus, Triceratops, Gallimimus, Pachysaphalasaurus, Compsognathus, and Tyrannosaurus. There also is this giant dragonfly that flies around. The animation for the dinosaurs, scenery, and Grant are all pretty good for a SNES game.

Most of the game is an overhead view where you can see Grant and move him around. However when you go inside of buildings it switches to a first person view like Doom or Wolfenstein.

The controls are pretty simple. You move slowly, there is no way to run in this game. That is one of my biggest complaints for this game, Grant moves SOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. You cant sprint to get to places and if the Tyrannosaurus comes after you there is no way you can walk away from you, he will catch you every time since Grant moves so slowly.

Getting around from place to place can be a pain in the ass also. This is not a game with different levels, there is just one huge map you are on and have to complete a lot of objectives to beat the game. But you have to keep going back and forth across the map to do different things and it takes forever because you move slowly.

You have to pick up these key cards of various people in Jurassic Park and use them to open up certain doors inside of buildings. There are so many to collect though.

Another thing you have to pick up is raptor eggs. Whenever you see one you pick it up. There are a lot of them though and I still have not found them though.

Another issue is the music. At times it is just up tempo music that goes good with the game. But other times the music is scary and makes you feel nervous. When you go inside of buildings you hear this scary music that repeats over and over and is terrifying. ALso it is really dark inside buildings too, playing this game alone at night is not a good idea. You can turn the music off but if you do that you wont be able to hear the music that acts as a warning for when the Tyrannosaurus is coming. So kind of damned if you do and damned if you don't with the music.

There are only some dinosaurs that you can kill. Tyrannosaurus can only be stopped by Tranquilizers and don't even try to shoot the Triceratops. ALl of the others can be killed, pretty easily too if you use the rocket launcher or bola snare.

While you are playing tid bits of information that is useful will pop up right in the middle of the screen. This is useful but also very annoying because it blocks your view badly. I cant count the number of times I was walking around and a screen pope up saying "Dont shoot the Gallimimus, they may stampede." Some of the information people give you is wrong too. Like when Nedry tells you to jump onto the electric fence for an extra life. I tried it, and it did not work. If you press R it will make the information screen go away. YOu can also see information screens come up if you touch these tall metal poles that are found throughout the game.

You have to be careful when going inside buildings. There are some rooms where you need night vision goggles to see. IF you go in the room without night vision goggles on you die right away. ALso if you get night vision goggles they only work for the time you are in that building. IF you leave and go into another building you have to find new night vision goggles. Stuff like that makes this game annoying. Also when you are inside it is easy to get lost since many rooms look the same. SOmetimes it is a good idea to die so that you can re spawn from the last building you entered of information pole you touched.

Also there are these gates you must pass through to get to different parts of the park. YOu have to shoot the axle to get it to open and then walk through before it closes. First though you must go inside and navigate on the computer to make sure that you can open that particular gate. Ahhhg.

Overall this game is OK. IT is really hard to beat, not because it is overly difficult, it just takes so damn long to get around places and find what you need to advance. I know that I can beat it, but the question is do I want to waste half my life doing it? (Ok maybe not that long.) Maybe one day I will sit down and go through the whole game and beat it. IF anything this game is worth playing, its not that hard, just confusing and time consuming.

For a Video game based on a hit movie, it's not so bad.

Possibly one of the greatest movies of the 1990's was Jurassic Park. Directed by Steven Spielberg, it's the story of a scientist who recreates dinosaurs through preserved blood found in fossilized Mosquitoes. As a day at the park of dinosaurs goes on, things go wrong, and soon, the tourists in the park become a entrée dish for the pre-historic monsters. it was a huge success not only at the box office, but in VHS and laserdisc sales, evident in the amount of JP VHS tapes that you can find at your local thrift shop.

And of course, big movie release means Video game Tie-in.

Now my original review of this game was back in 2006 when I owned a physical copy of the game and had only seen part of the movie (and took a dislike to it because of how it disturbed me at a young age.) and have since wanted to re-write a more professional review.

The game is somewhat reminiscent of the movie. You can either play as Dr. Grant or the Velociraptor.

If you play as Dr. Grant, you must get through 5 levels of Jurassic park, avoiding dinosaurs and fighting them off with various weapons including a taser gun. If you play as the Velociraptor, you have to chase Dr. grant through the levels, while eating the armed guards planted throughout.

This game doesn't hold much staying power for what it's worth. It's just your basic platformer with a few bells and whistles thrown in. on top of that, it's also one of the shortest games for the Genesis - I've seen a speedrun (Not Tool-assisted) where the player finished the game in 3 minutes.

But this is a game you may want to try out, perhaps if you're a die-hard JP fan.

    Bo-oring!

Back in 1993 Sega released a dull, lackluster video game of one of the biggest films of all time. Quickly realizing their mistake they hashed out a different version of the game, claiming it would be bigger, tougher and better.

Neither were. Both were slow, boring games.

You can choose to be either Dr. Alan Grant or...a Raptor. Both have their problems. Why would Dr. Grant go around killing all those army guys (just what are they doing in the game)? And why would a Raptor be killing other Raptors? Weird.

Obviously not learning from their first mistake Sega really dropped the ball on the original release and the so-called Rampage Edition. One of the slowest, sluggish and dullest platformers I have ever played.

    Silly, Sega and So Awesome

Sure, this game is a little silly and doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it was the early 90s and video games were just starting to develop from Atari to Sega.

My brother and I played this game all the time when we were little and we LOVED it. I have very good memories of playing this, listening to the great music (the soundtrack is some great old-school stuff, particularly the Aviary song from the Rampage Edition) and actually really enjoying the game.

Not that you can really get this anymore, let alone play it, but this was a great game for its time and I still treasure the memories it gave me.
