The Merry Widow Murder

Claire Whitfield is a beautiful mature woman. A noted charitable fundraiser and married to tycoon Elliott Whitfield.

Claire is having an affair with a younger private investigator. Together they plan to kill Elliott and they have lured Dr Mark Sloan.

First by making out that Elliott has a violent temper. Then that he has problems sleeping with loud snoring. Then make it look that Dr Sloan is having an affair with her.

It is all a bit too convoluted but this is one D Sloan gets ahead of his play sooner than later. Both he and Steve Sloan set up an elaborate trap.

Trivia
Brynn Thayer was also the lead guest actress in Season 7, episode 12, "Man Overboard," originally airing on January 6, 2000. "Man Overboard" has many eerie similarities to "The Merry Widow Murder." Coincidentally, Ms. Thayer's character's first name is Clare, with a slight difference in the spelling. Also, coincidentally, her husband, Robert Brantigan, is both wealthy and has one *known* chronic and very serious illness - diabetes. As in "The Merry Widow Murder," the death of Claire Bratigan's husband was first ruled to be accidental. It wasn't long, however, before suspicions began to emerge regarding Mr. Brantigan's "accidental" death. If he was *murdered*, this put Claire Brantigan at the top of the suspect's list in the *murder* of her wealthy husband - and having done so in a very brutal manner.

Goofs
Mark talks about his father getting old and getting mad when Mark tried to help him out of his chair. Later in the series, it is revealed that Mark's father leaves the family when Mark was only 10 and the father was still a policeman.
