    Jeff the Slacker

Donna (Donna Reed) is upset when slacker son Jeff (Paul Peterson) brings home a less than stellar report card - "straight Cs". Jeff is unconcerned, Alex (Carl Betz) thinks Jeff isn't trying hard enough, Mary Shelley Fabares) wonders about the Stone family's reputation, and Donna becomes increasingly worried. At his school's "Open House", Jeff's teacher reports he is a smart boy who is not very interested in academics. Donna responds by having the family turn dinner chat into intellectual conversation about topics like "an international conference to discuss the Middle East," and life on the moon.

Meanwhile, Ann Doran (as Margaret Adams) worries about her son, a "straight A" student ostracized by other boys. When Jeff befriends young Harvey Grant (as Phil Adams), Donna thinks he's only interested in copying the smarter boy's homework. But, Jeff has a lesson for his mother… A nicely written episode (Nate Monaster), with endearing characterizations.

***** The Report Card (2/25/59) Nate Monaster ~ Donna Reed, Paul Peterson, Ann Doran
