    Corky

So funny from start to finish. Yes many of us in the early 80s did think the 60s were kind of lame considering how prosperous peaceful and confident of a time we were living in.

Elyse wants to perform at a local open mic club and while Stephen has her full support the kids are not so keen on the idea. Especially Mallory who said she should do 'Beat It' (which was HUGE at the time) followed by a hilarious dance move emulating the late great MJ.

The real scene stealer was Corky the dummy. His swaying while Elyse performed at the end of the episode always slays me. And his message to Elyse telling her that her songs were good but it wasn't what people wanted to hear was heart felt and true.

I always thought MBB's voice was beautiful very Joni Mitchell like and I think this episode ages very well.

    My favorite episode

I was born in 1980, so Elyse's style of singing was out by the time I even knew what music was, but I have always loved the sound of 1960's folk music. It's beautiful, poetic, and meaningful. It represents a time when at least some people really cared about important matters.

This episode always brings me close to tears. The 1960's weren't often great for some people, but the music stood for something. More modern music just doesn't have the same values. Nobody cares anymore.

The patrons in the club where Elyse performed showed proof of that. Most of the crowd looked to be in their 30's, so you know the music she sang wasn't unfamiliar to them, but after a certain time period many people started calling folk music hokey.

I think this episode highlights where the world went wrong. Like I said, the 1960's were clearly not good for everyone, but there were people who actually stood their ground on change and also had values.

Like Elyse said, you can't go home again, and that is sad.
