Malloy and Reed begin to suspect that their street informant has returned to using and is committing crimes to support his habit after he is hit and found with a wad of cash. He loses his job but a priest still has faith in him.

Adam-12 steps outside it&#39;s usual formula of multiple segments of Malloy and Reed answering different radio calls. In this episode, they concentrate on one investigation. A snitch has snitched on a snitch. Malloy&#39;s longtime provider of information, Tee Jay, played by terrific character actor Robert Donner, is said to be back on drugs. A previous user of needles, Tee Jay had been doing good and had even been working a job that Malloy had arranged for him. Donner can be seen in loads of guest appearances on TV shows ranging from the likes of &quot;Mork and Mindy&quot; to &quot;Columbo&quot;. He was quite memorable on Mork and Mindy as the recuring character, Exidor. Exidor was an insane soothsayer awaiting the ever approaching doomsday. Robin Williams&#39; naive space alien Mork took him as one of Earth&#39;s greatest Philosphers. Donner was very funny in the role. Martin Milner is his usual terrific self as Officer Pete Malloy. He gets to put some extra pathos into his character. Malloy chooses to act as though Tee Jay is just someone he can use in the line of duty. Reed though, sees right through Malloy&#39;s tough cop camoflage, recognizing that Malloy does care for the guy. Malloy had gone beyond his job requirements and arranged a dishwashing position for Tee Jay. He had also previously spoken positively of Tee Jay&#39;s commitment to &quot;getting off the stuff&quot;. Now, with Tee Jay rumored to be back using again, Malloy&#39;s disappointment turns to disgust upon realizing that Tee Jay is suspect Number One in the robbery of funds from a Church. Worse, the Priest from whom the money had been taken had been beaten in the process. Tee Jay had been helping the Priest doing odd jobs around the Church. Further than that, Malloy learns that Tee Jay had been fired from the dishwashing job Malloy had arranged for him. Duke, the owner of the bar where Tee Jay had been working, tells M &amp; R that he witnessed a drug transaction involving Tee Jay. Though Tee Jay has certainly told some lies, it turns out he&#39;s also the victim of numerous circumstances. There&#39;s a great scene at a hotel flophouse in which a gun has been stolen from the joint&#39;s manager. This is where Tee Jay has been living. Malloy and Reed are taken up to Tee Jays room by the seedy Manager. This guy doesn&#39;t care about proper police procedures. He wants M &amp; R to search the room regardless of the lack of a warrant. The actor playing the part is great, putting plenty of &quot;creepy jerk&quot; into the part. It&#39;s nice to see the partners basically working one case. As said, their investigation takes them around a seedier side of Los Angeles. A Church in a troubled area, a hospital, a run-down hotel, a bar. We&#39;re also treated to a chase scene which results in a nice stunt which sees Tee Jay bouncing off the windshield of a car he&#39;s just run in front of. Good acting, direction and production through-out. The music played on the Priest&#39;s new hi-fi stereo set is a bit wonky. That however is generic stock studio-production stuff (awful) which was suppose to pass as &quot;rock and roll&quot; of the time period. There&#39;s also a nice scene at the end over which the theme music plays and the credits roll. This has Malloy and Reed outside the Church having some hestitation as they attempt to depart the location. A nice touch.

Log 93: Once a Junkie

T. J., a junkie ex con and informant is suspected of robbing a priest. An OK episode. Malloy also helped T. J. get a job, which is more troubling to him. John Kerr (&quot;Tea And Sympathy&quot; 1956) plays the priest. Barney Phillips has a small part as a detective, he was also one of Joe Friday&#39;s partners on the 1950s version of &quot;Dragnet&quot;. An amusing scene has a hotel desk reporting his baby has been stolen, a 45 caliber pistol.
