    The Ruby of Radnor

Lancelot now in colour. Although the stories still lack anything more than skin deep.

The precious Ruby of Radnor has been gifted to Everard who is King Arthur's cousin.

Pretty soon Everard has been robbed. King Arthur sends his knights to go look for the robbers. Not realising that this was an inside job and Everard was in on it who has send them all in the wrong direction.

It is Brian who is being punished for playing too many pranks on Merlin who stumbles on to the thieves.

However he also learns that Everard is the real villain. The homing pigeons he was carrying are the only way to get his message to Lancelot.

It certainly suits the serial being in colour.

There were sloppy scenes though. For example when Brian was hiding in the back of the cart. The bags hid him from the guards at the front. The reverse shot made it clear that Brian was behind them as the bags were not stacked as high.

    Sir Lancelot in colour!

King Arthur's rule is placed in peril when The Crown jewels, including the prized Radnor ruby are stolen from under the very nose of his cousin Everard. After creating much mischief, Brian is sent to Coventry.

I suppose the main talking point here, is that it's in colour, I'll be honest I was not expecting to see this show in such vibrant colour, maybe it's out of nostalgia's sake, but I prefer it in black and white, I think a little bit of something has been lost here.

The story itself is a rather good one, King Arthur is once again a little unlucky with those he's placed trust in. Good that it's a Brian story, and Srcoggins leads it very well.

Just goes to show The Pigeon Post works well when needed. The fight scenes look pretty good, and again it's good to see Russell doing his own Stunts, the sword fights are much better here.

Brian is starting to find his way in life, he's gone from being a somewhat naive, wet behind the ears boy, to a somewhat cheeky young man, and happy to push the boundaries, he is at least developing as a character.

I think this is one of the better episodes so far.

    7/10.

[having solved a vexing puzzle, Merlin expresses his pleasure by causing a magical explosion]

Sir Lancelot du Lac: Is that really necessary?

      Merlin: I suppose not.

Sir Lancelot du Lac: I thought as much.

Merlin: But it's fun, isn't it!
