Must See for singer and actor Pat Boone, who never ever retired from showbiz.
He plays himself here, who happens to be strolling through Beverly Hills and --yes -- smells Granny's home cooked collard greens? Is her cooking that STRONG? Only Paul Henning could write this stuff.
FYI: Collard greens are similar to cabbage, a staple in southern cooking with smoked meats. Deeeeelicious!
Pat stops by the mansion, Jed and Granny naturally don't know who he is -- thinking he's another poor country guy who could use a solid meal. Why not? One thing you have to admit, the Clampetts were very, very genrous folks, who inspired all us kids.
The rest of the story is what you would expect whenever there's a star (who doesn't act like a star) involved. Mr. Drysdale is also invited to some down home cookin', and
if anything, this episode will make you hungry! No kidding.
Jim Bannon (known for LOU GRANT) makes a return visit, playing a policeman. Jim was the son of Bea Benadaret, also appearing on his mom's show, PETTICOAT JUNCTION.
Tristram Coffin, famous for movie serials, plays Mr. Tucker. Opal Vils Best Dressed Award always going to Mrs. Drysdale, stealing a few scenes too.
A memorable and always goofy family episode, thoughtfully cast with Pat Boone. SEASON 7 EPISODE 26 remastered color. Seasons 6 through 9 are expected to be released on blu ray by 2027.
Thanks METV and CATCHY TV for the memories and the vittles.
