Big question, and I have wondered about this for years... Does Max look embarrassed or about to crack up under that wig and makeup? You be the judge.
Writer and producer Paul Henning put lots of creativity in this episode, and its a duel of sorts between Sonny Drysdale (Louis Nye) and Jethrine as to WHO makes the most outrageous character. Henning's daughter, Linda, plays the voice of Jethrine. Be sure to catch Jethrine's fiancee, Jazzbo Depew -- as in director Joseph Depew, who would direct future episodes.
By the way, is Sonny actually going to give Elly a ring -- or a "ring" on the phone? Hence, another Henning mis- mis-communication.
Two unforgettable scenes; Jed and Elly May sit down to have a father and daughter talk. A nice touch. Also check out the hoppin' dance routine, and watch Buddy Ebsen strut his stuff like the old days. Louis Nye is pretty darn good too. Director Richard Wharf does it again.
Jethrine's makeup was handled by John Sylvester, who worked on over 100 episodes. He began his career as the makeup artist for Ed Wood! Super trivia question for film buffs.
SEASON 1 EPISODE 11 remastered black and white CBS dvd box set. According to Amazon, seasons 6 through 9 are expected to be released in 2027.
While Granny was eavesdropping from a tree. She is determined that both Elly May and Sonny get together soon. At 18 years of age she Elly May might as well be an old maid.
When Cousin Pearl hears about Elly May possibly getting married. She wants her daughter Jethrine to beat her to it. So Cousin Pearl wants to hook up Jethrine with Jasper Depew.
All this talk of marriage comes as a shock to Sonny. He regards himself as the last of the playboys.
Well at least someone in the Clampett household has got to grips with the telephone. Maybe not where the doorbell sound comes from.

- TriviaGranny shares some family history, revealing that she and her late daughter, Rose Ella Moses, plotted for six months to trick Jed into proposing. Granny later boasts to Sonny Drysdale that she was "the best doggone dancer that ever came out of the Tennessee hills," and that Jed can "out-stomp a riled up mule."
- Quotes
Daisy Moses: There's no two ways about it. That child is gonna need help to trap that Sonny Drysdale.
Jed Clampett: Elly May don't need to trap no man to git him.
Daisy Moses: Every man that ever got git was git that way.
Jed Clampett: Not me, we just happened to stop under a shady elm tree and I proposed to your daughter on the spur of the moment.
Daisy Moses: That spur of the moment of yours took us six months schemin' and plannin'. Why, we even trained that ole mare of yours to stop under that shady ole elm tree.
