This is it. One of the later episodes that had all us kids addicted. Banana City. Phil Silvers returns as Shifty Shafer, still hoping to relieve Jed of some of his millions. He's now joined by Flo, beautifully played by Kathleen Freeman, determined Shifty carry out his plans.
The WILD catch -- Flo is supposed to be Shifty's Spanish senorita mama? Her accent and costume (catch the headgear and fan) is wacky. If you're thinking THREE STOOGES, you're right. Producer and writer Paul Henning had to be inspired by Curly, who played senoritas in drag. As I've written before, if only Moe or Larry showed up in gag roles, this would have made tv history.
The notes are correct. When this episode was produced, Spanish was not as common a language in the US as it is today. That said, Flo speaking pigeon Spanish, punctuated with "Iguana..." and "Tortilla?... is Stooge-riffic.
In the meantime, keep an eye on Jed, keeping an eye in everybody...
Even if you're not a fan of this series, a must for two super comedians. Had the potential for a spinoff sitcom. SEASON 8 EPISODE 27 remastered. According to Amazon, seasons 6 through 9 are expected to be released in 2027.
