    Jed Cuts the Family Tree

Mrs Smith-Standish is still fascinated by the Clampetts way of life. That they still use traditional methods to grind corn.

Mrs Drysdale has a go and it ruins her hands. She then gets a lift from Jethro to the bank. It ruins her hat as the goat at the back grazed on it.

There is a good possibility that Jed's family are descendants from the first arrivals on the Mayflower. All Jed has to do is confirm the name of one of his ancestors.

Something Jed is reluctant to do in case of press attention.

Cousin Pearl wants to go upmarket. She goes shopping in Beverly Hills and gives everyone a makeover.

I noticed some satire in this one. Cousin Bodine thinks that they will be pushed into high society if they were one of the first settlers. Jed retorts that the Native Indians should be rolling in it then.

    DOWN GOES THE TREE!

Nutty continuation of the previous episode, co-starring Rosemary DeCamp as Mrs. Smith Standish, descendent of Myles Standish, who becomes a supporter of the Clampetts, much to the dismay of stubborn, old Mrs. Drysdale.

This episode is a winner, the biggest gag all about Jed's ancestors --possibly -- being the very first settlers in the country? However, Jed doesn't want any publicity. Nevertheless, Mrs. Standish wants to spend some quality time with the Clampetts, and that includes Cousin Pearl. A nod to Harriett MacGibbon, in what has to be her best performance as Mrs. Drysdale, forced to do all the "old fashion" chores around the house, including washing dishes. Dishpan hands with diamond rings? Mr. Drysdale LOVES it, because she's never worked a day in her life. First time we get to see him smile a real smile.

I agree with the last reviewer, Mrs. D's ride in the old buggy to the bank is outrageous, parts actually filmed along Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. Great stuff for sightseers, if only it was in color.

Opal Vils, the show's resident wardrobe specialist, outdoes herself with some cool threads. Pearl decides to go "Beverly Hills" and gets herself a complete makeover; plush hairdo and a mink stole! Bea Benedaret looks elegant, too. She also recommends "re-designing" the Clampett's attire, catch Jed dressed for polo (and lookin' sharp) and Elly dressed as a ballet dancer? What would Myles Standish say?

Guest star Rosemary DeCamp, who later played Marlo Thomas' mom on THAT GIRL, always a treat.

The square dance finale is an all time classic, and is that an accordian, Granny and Mrs. Drysdale are playing?

    A Paul Henning mini masterpiece.

SEASON 1 EPISODE 26 remastered CBS dvd box set. According to Amazon, finally, Seasons 6 through 9 are expected to be released on blu ray by 2027. Stay tuned. Thanks to METV for running every single episode.
