The DMV Hasn't Changed in 55 Years

Absolutely hilarious episode in which Herman, after failing his driving test at the local DMV tries his luck, with Grandpa at his side, at a station in a small town. This episode stands out due to the marvelous character actor, Charles Ruggles who steals the show as the befuddled clerk in charge of a one-man operation. His final line is priceless.

    Charles Ruggles gem

Rules and Herman don't sit well. Just knew the DMV visit would be crazy. Funniest parts are the driving test course and the whole Charles Ruggles segment. Charles Ruggles was great as Mrs Drysdale's con man father going after the Clampett's riches on The Beverly Hillbillies.

    HILARIOUS Herman Munster!!!

Herman Munster was absolutely hilarious here! I LOVED it when he got his license from instructor, then seconds later, backs into his car!!! Lmao!! The entire cast is TOO funny! The guy behind the counter was a riot too, asking Herman the driving questions! Every time I watch The Munsters, I laugh tears!! LOVE them!

I loved when Herman replied, "And they say everything good is in front." Lolol.

My ABSOLUTE FAVE AND FUNNIEST episode EVER is Movie Star Munster! LOVE how the two con men trying to trick Herman get what they deserve!! Herman was onto them, just a little too late.

I think he was / is THE FUNNIEST, most hilarious man ever!!!

    Herman The Hearse Driver

Herman gets a promotion down at the parlor driving the hearse, but has to renew his driver's licence.

Herman goofs up his driver's test when the wrecks the driving examiner's car. Grandpa gets an idea that if Herman goes to a small town he can easily get the licence there. This is an amusing episode that seems to be a showcase for the guest star, the old time comic character actor Charlie Ruggles. He plays a jack of all trades in the small town, holding down all the jobs. He is also very near sighted so he is not scared of Herman or Grandpa. He has some funny scenes as Herman easily passes his test.

From 1949 to 1952, Charles Ruggles (Charlie Wiggens) starred in the family-oriented sitcom The Ruggles (1949). The shows were broadcast live and it was one of the first to originate from Hollywood rather than New York City. Only a few number of kinescopes episodes survive at the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
