"DNA doesn't lie, Jethro. People do."

The third episode of the season is in the books, and honestly, I'm not that engaged yet. I know this is only the third episode, so I'm expecting to become more engaged further into it; I know what happens at the end of this season.

And on the plus side, I didn't find it boring; it was passable entertainment, although I wished for it to be more exciting and engaging. I'll probably get that at some point in this season. I think the next episode is the debut of the iconic black-and-white previews with the "foof/phoof" sound effect that's a memorable aspect of NCIS now (and I was surprised to learn that the camera sound effect, which I prefer, was in NCIS: Los Angeles, not this show), so in a shallow way, part of me thinks the next episode will kick off the season in a more exciting and consistent direction.

But, unless I remember incorrectly, I think the first season was more engaging at this point, not to mention there were plenty of memorable episodes. This season is off to a weaker start, that's for sure. That's the thing regarding shows with so many episodes a season; there's a chance that there could be memorable ones, but there will also be weaker ones. I hope this season doesn't have too many weaker ones and enough memorable ones.

My only complaint is the writing for Tony. I know plenty of men are like that; many women have probably encountered a few. I'm just not sure if that was in the minds of the writers intending to craft a realistic work environment for a woman by having a character like that; there seems to be a subtle comedic undertoned reasoning most of the time. Now, he's written to assume Caitlin's closing in on her period because she's not putting up with his antics. I don't think it's for comedy in this context, which is a little better, but I hope there will be character development for him eventually.

Scene shows Gibbs opening pay phone with his knife. That pay phone requires 2 keys to open properly or a drill with a carbide drill bit. Drill 4 holes on that face plate. Open with a knife, not going to happen.

[DiNozzo is telling McGee about the movie "Invaders from Mars."]

Agent Anthony 'Tony' DiNozzo: Aliens landed in a field just like this one. They took over the locals' minds, leaving a little red "x" on the backs of their necks.

      Agent Timothy McGee: Sounds lame.

Agent Anthony 'Tony' DiNozzo: Oh, no! Scariest movie I ever saw. Especially when this kid tries to tell his mom and dad what's going on. Camera slowly comes around, reveals x's on the back of Mom and Dad's necks. Whew! I was scared of my parents for years after that.

Agent Timothy McGee: I'm sure the feeling was mutual.
