    Whinfrey's Last Case

Whinfrey's Last Case is certainly a parody of those Boy's Own adventures and clearly something The Comic Strip Presents........ would emulate a few years later with its Famous Five Parodies.

There is a hint of John Buchan's The 39 Steps about this. Whinfrey has spent the last15 years of his life either brokering peace or starting conflicts. He has had enough.

When military officials visit him in 1913 that the Germans plan to start a war a year earlier. Whinfrey decides to go for a holiday in the Cornish coast instead.

Only when he arrives at the fishing village of Torpoint, it seems he is not wanted. His guest house is full of servants big enough to maintain a vast country estate. They are also acting a little shifty.

Whatever it is Whinfrey is clueless and he stays clueless throughout. He just about manages an escape when the room he is locked in has a multitude of secret escape routes.

It really is a sharp satire of the stiff upper lip, gentleman amateur.
