Stood up at the end to clap

There are very few times an episode can make me mumble praises as I watch an episode. This was one of them. Sorkins dialogue can make your eyes tear up

    Amazing and graceful writing

Loaded with clever comic relief, this episode has Sorkin covering a wide range of topics with precision, sarcasm and amazing perception. How he juggles so much material while keeping the viewer focused on the humanity of his hand-picked cast is quite an achievement.

It gives Bradley Whitford quite a subtle showcase of his acting skills, adding depth to his character and terrific empathy. A teenage Elisabeth Moss is introduced as Sheen's daughter and gets to meet Dule Hill for the first time, and you can immediately sense the simple way this great actress steals one's heart.

So many individual topics are covered in 40-odd minutes, I was struck at how prescient Sorkin was in choosing Smallpox and the possibility of an epidemic as an Apocalyptic type of danger -boy was he correct. And the speech for Sheen to sum everything up and put things in perspective about human aspirations provides a classic finale.

    The tons of cheese.

A brilliant opening with John Spencer. And a more serious scene with this secret card.

And the pres prep for his speech.

How nice it would be if this was for daytime real. Mrs landigham as a wonderful inbetween. Bless her soul.

Martin sheen shining. And the great intros by his personal aide. Mandy is kind of annoying as others have commented. Imagine if this was what's really happening in the White House. We wouldn't considering ww3. Some say this is leftist liberal stuff. But still it wouldn't imply ww3. Just sort of inside bickering.

As a Norwegian I'd say look to Norway. We have discrepant views but we're still friends and still can talk to each other. Sorry for being Scandinavian but nowadays we're just shocked about how divided us politics and the inability to see things from opposite sides. Love and hugs.

    So Much Here

This episode once again teaches us some things. First of all is the fact that each of the principles is forced one a month to meet with people who have unique agendas. One is a guy who wants to develop a broader approach to UFO investigations. Another couple wanted to build a wolf bridge to Canada to save the species from harm. The point is that as outrageous as these things are, they have enough factors that are valid. Also, Josh shows his colors as he feels guilty about having special status in a national emergency. Lessons learned in a subtle way.

    • Trivia
Not only is the Andrew Jackson block of cheese story a true one from the real Jackson Administration, but several years after this show went off the air, President Obama also added a real "Big Block of Cheese Day" to his administration's schedule. On January 24, 2014, the Obama White House announced that in the spirit of both Andrew Jackson and the television program "The West Wing," they would host a real version of the show's "Big Block of Cheese Day," in which White House officials would be available to answer questions from ordinary Americans (albeit online instead of in person, as the "cheese day" meetings were on the show). This announcement was kicked off by a video, posted on the White House's official website, that featured "West Wing" stars Bradley Whitford and Joshua Malina and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney. The first real Big Block of Cheese Day took place on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. On January 16, 2015, the White House announced that they would again be holding a Big Block of Cheese Day. This time, the video announcement (titled "Big Block of Cheese Day Is Back, and It's Feta Than Ever") featured White House Press secretary Josh Earnest and West Wing cast members Bradley Whitford, Joshua Malina, Mary McCormack, Dulé Hill, Richard Schiff, Allison Janney, and Martin Sheen. The video described the event as "like Reddit, but without the weird stuff."
    • Goofs
When Josh is listening to "Ave Maria" he claims that Schubert was crazy. Medically speaking, this was untrue and it's more than likely that the writers were thinking of composer Robert Schumann, who did in fact end up in an insane asylum towards the end of his life.
