Ken Reeves: [Reeves is talking with Reese and Darlene about her supposed pregnancy and their future plans] First of all, I want to apologize.
Milton Reese: For?
Ken Reeves: For some things I'm about to say that I don't think either one of you are gonna like.
Darlene Robinson: Like what?
Ken Reeves: Like I don't think you're pregnant.
Milton Reese: What's that supposed to mean?
Ken Reeves: Read my lips. I don't think she's pregnant.
Darlene Robinson: Why would I lie about something like that?
Ken Reeves: Because I think you're scared to death of losing Milton.
Milton Reese: She knows better than that!
Ken Reeves: I wonder. You know, in some ways she's smarter than you, Milton. She knows you could have gotten a basketball scholarship, probably to a school out of state. She knows that with a four-year college education under your belt, you probably weren't coming back here. She knows you probably weren't coming back for her, either. How am I doing so far?
Darlene Robinson: Come on, Milton. let's get outta here!
Ken Reeves: I don't mean you did it maliciously. I think you really love Milton. I think you were just afraid of what your life would be like without him.
Darlene Robinson: That's a lie!
Darlene Robinson: I think you've seen it happen to a lot of girls and you were gonna make damn sure it doesn't happen to you.
Milton Reese: Just shut up! What's with you, man? First you say marry her. Then you say wait. You're just trying to poison us!
Ken Reeves: [to Darlene] Take a pregnancy test.
Darlene Robinson: I did already!
Ken Reeves: Who's the doctor? Where are the test results?
Darlene Robinson: None of your business!
Ken Reeves: You afraid?
Milton Reese: Look, if she takes it, will you leave us alone?
Ken Reeves: Absolutely.
Darlene Robinson: No, Milton, I won't do it!
Milton Reese: Why not? Darlene, I'm gonna jam this down his throat once and for all!
Ken Reeves: She won't take the test because she knows it'll come out negative!
Ken Reeves: [Reese looks at Darlene, shocked] How could you have signed up for next year's cheerleading squad if you know you were gonna be six months pregnant?
