I went to watch the movie last week and I really enjoyed it. It shows how men and women feel a separation after it's done and how difficult it's for them to continue with their lives... Everybody loves, that's cool! The movie let you see how big and obsessive a feeling can get, it talks about trust, love, personal search, the permanence of love in time, growing up, sex and almost brotherhood. The actors were quite good, perhaps the characters were difficult to recreate but I liked the way the did it... I didn't know Ana and when I saw how she felt that character it was great. I think that her face is appropriate for Sofia. I think that the Director is the same who directed Carandiru, isn't him?
I saw this movie with low expectations and was not disappointed. Its so bad that it is actually funny in a very cringe worthy way.
Gael is absolutely terrible, I mean he just cannot act, period. He should give up now, as acting is clearly not his thing.. His co-stars are about the same caliber, i'm sure my 5 year old cousin could do a better job than all of them! The director should be ashamed to have put his name on something so ridiculous.. Somehow I don't think an Oscar is on the cards for this guy.
I have never written a comment on IMDb, but this movie was so bad I felt compelled to do so.
If you get the chance to see this film, don't 0/10 if there was a 0

I saw this movie last night, I think this was a good movie and a horrible story, being haunted and trapped by your own past is not always good, at some point the guy (Bernal) seems to have the same tastes, way of thinking as his previuos partner (after 12 years together you figure it out)....once he is over that he find himself lost....making some very bad decisions and not facing them correctly are part of his life, he sabotage his own success after steeping up to his past...interesting movie..leave a bad taste in my mouth...I am not saying that the movie was bad, I am saying that the movie accomplished its target on me...creating an emotion..it was not a nice feeling.
A good book transformed in a very poor movie. As usual a good thats very good it turns out to be a mediocre movie... it lacks of very important parts of the book that are very relevant and would have made a very grate movie... it's a long a book, i know, so. Have they had to shoot the movie in two or three parts? thats for sure.
making a film, like this out of a book like this is criminal...
they forgot about the painter parts.
they show Sophia as a bad woman, when in the books it isn't that bad, is the only woman who can understand him... but having to stretch the filming leads the movie to show the history the way it isn't.
it disappoint's u a little beat, because the film it's just because the book had the repercussion it has and not to show the real spirit of the novel itself

"El pasado" is an introspective and provocative movie that asks us the scope of liberty that we have towards our history. Until which point can we forget what we have been through? Or yet, how do we build our narratives? Forgetfulness is a way of healing our evils. In "El pasado" Rimini (Gael Garcia Bernal) is a young translator who lives a torment when getting a divorce from Sofia (Analia Couceyro), with whom he was married for 12 years. Sofia did not accept the separation. Rimini was a translator and he started forgetting some English and French words, languages he mastered quite well up to them. It adds some more suffering to his life. Hector Babenco, the director, who was born in Argentina. He conducted well-commented movies, such as "Playing in the fields of the Lord". As Hitchcock use to do in his films, Babenco plays a short scene in the movie. Try to find when.
