    Going Against Type

I still remember this episode 54 years ago. If Rick Nelson wanted to break the mold and shatter his good guy image, he knocked it out of the part. He really got into the part and pulled it off. This was soon after the Manson Incident and I remember a lot of critics compared Nelson's character to Manson. This should have been the break out part for him to jump start his acting career and be taken seriously as a dramatic actor. He really showed his range here. I don't remember if he was considered for an Emmy but he should have. Good job and rest in peace, Mr. Nelson.

I'd like to get my hands on the scum that would get a girl like that to turn tricks!

***SPOILERS""" 1960's teenage heartthrob Ricky Nelson is the low life flute playing pimp Billy Jeffers who been preying on runaway young girls in San Francisco who fall for his act as a caring and loving human being who only wants to help them. By the time that the "Streets of Sabn Francisco" episode ends Billy had already murdered three young girls who got wise to his act and were ready to turn him over to the police for corrupting the morals of a minor.

It was Inspector Steve Keller, Michael Douglas, who investigated the supposed suicide of one of Billy's victim his main squeeze Sarah Holt, Kay Lenz, whom he got tired of and decided to deep six in San Francisco Bay. Keller and his partner the bulb nosed Detective Lt. Mike Stone, Karl Malden, tracked down through an address book found in the late Sarah Holt's apartment Kim, Laurette Spang, who Billy was grooming as his latest addition to his runaway girl harem or stable to go out on the streets and do tricks for him to pays his bills. His flute playing, for nickels dimes & quarters, on the street didn't quite make the cut!

***SPOILERS*** With Kim finally realizing what a 1st class rat her boyfriend Billy really is as well as triple murderer she with Insp. Keller & Det. Stone by her side fingered him, while he's playing his flute in McArthur Park, as the pimp who's been using her as well as other girls like her to break the law, as prostitutes, as well as off them when they got too wise to him and were about to leave his sleazy sex for sale operation. Being the coward that he is Billy who at first tried to get Kim, who at first loved him, to alibi for him in a number of murders he committed. That had him show his true colors, when she told him to go stick it, in calling her the dirty whore that she is as he was being taken away, after his failed escape attempt, to the can, clink or lock-up, by the cops . Which in fact was what that sleazy and murderous flute player turned or tried to turn her into!
