    Inner Battles

The beginning is a bit of a mystery as some obvious villain named "Earl" is hiding out in this German-styled country house and the SCU and police have it surrounded. Gung-ho "Dale" is given authorization to storm the house.

Well, the cops can't penetrate this guy's steel-enforced house. It also turns out he's ex-Star Lab employee who stole a radioactive isotope from them. He made a bomb with it - which could take out a square mile of the city - and is holding Metropolis hostage.

Superman arrives and he can get through, naturally, but this guy's house was really fortified! What happens is interesting. The guy, Earl Garver, has the bomb encased in lead so Superman can't see it and it's somewhere in the city. And - when Superman fights off this guy's weapons, Garver gets knocked out and is going to be unconscious for two days. The bomb is set to go off in four hours. Who could possibly find it?

The answer is very interesting: The Parasite, the guy who could get "inside" people. He was featured in a very interesting episode earlier in the year. Superman and the SCU have to go to Stryker's Island, the Alcatraz-like prison and convince this guy ("Rudy") to help them. Rudy, of course, gives the standard, "Why should I help you guys?" answer

Rudy is a simple guy. In return for saving the city, all he wants is "Cable TV -with all the premium channels" - in his cell. Sounds good to the cops

What transpires after that is a schizophrenic war between Rudy and Earl - two guys under the same powers. Better to be watched than explained. I guess you could say this episode is a little more "cerebral" than most

I recognized the voice of actor Brian Cox as "Earl."

    • Trivia
In this episode, Parasite reveals that he doesn't retain the knowledge that he absorbs from other people. This explains why he doesn't remember that Superman is Clark Kent.
    • Goofs
The villain asks for $50M in bearer bonds, which haven't been issued in the US after legislation in the 1980s essentially outlawed new bonds.
    • Quotes

The Parasite: You want me to go into this guy's mind and try to find out where the bomb is. No skin off my nose. But I want something in return.

      Superman: What's that?

The Parasite: Something to help the time go faster in this dump... And not a bunch of boring books either. I want cable *and* the premium channels.
