Vic Tolman is nasty crook who uses his meek looking girlfriend Lyn to infiltrate places to rob.

Vic is accompanied by the imposing Lennie, who is more brawn than brains.

However Lyn was involved in a car accident and escaped from an ambulance by taking out a gun.

Both Vic and Lyn are vicious and it is Regan who ends up in danger when trying to apprehend them.

This one is a return to the earlier more gritty and violent shows. Lyn is certainly a handful.

George Sewell who starred in Special Branch plays Vic Tolman and he hates coppers.

The character of Lennie seems to be a reference to Lennie Smalls in the novella Of Mice and Men.

Stolen by Di Trevis as a femme fatale

One of the best episodes of the fourth/final season of THE SWEENEY features character-actor George Sewell in BAIT, stolen by girlfriend/femme fatale Di Trevis, able to be somewhat attractive one minute and a gun-toting hag the next, starting off vulnerable and injured inside an ambulance before frantically turning her gun on the cop inside...

The characters and plot a hybrid of OF MICE AND MEN with Sewell the stocky tough guy partnered with tall and dopey Edward Peel, fitfully named Lennie, in an inevitable factory's office robbery much like the film noir THE KILLERS where Di's Lynn Hurst works as a misleadingly awkward, clumsy secretary...

Meanwhile the BAIT title refers to her young child, staked-out by SWEENEY leads John Thaw and Dennis Waterman, who (at one point questioning gorgeous toy store salesgirl Judy Buxton), are more or less guests stars on their own show this time around.

NOTE: Came around to liking this episode; originally it wasn't a great review which is why the down-votes.

[Vic Tolman is holding Regan at gunpoint after an attempt to arrest him went wrong]

Vic Tolman: You dirty filthy festering scum!

Det. Sgt. George Carter: You even *bruise* him and you'll need an embalmer, not a brief.
