You can't run away from your feet.

Furley is feeling down lately, especially after his domineering brother Bart has humiliated him in front of Nancy, an employee of Barts' after whom Furley lusts. As a result, Jack, Janet & Chrissy make a number of attempts to cheer him up, even throwing a party in Furleys' honor, with Nancy (Gloria LeRoy, "Barfly") as a special guest.

While part of the plot hinges on characters typically leaping to the wrong conclusion after overhearing Furley talking about "taking gas" (the landlord actually wants to schedule a visit with Larry's dentist), the hook is that Furley ends up milking the situation for everything that it's worth.

'The Goodbye Guy' is a good, if not great, episode, with some pretty funny lines and solid laughs, and is overall a nice showcase for Mr. Knotts. Guest star LeRoy is fun as the object of Furley's affection; she initially comes off as kind of strident & obnoxious, but eventually endears herself to the viewer. Knotts, of course, tends to have all the best moments.

It's absolutely hilarious when Larry tries to make a toast to Furley, and can't get through it without guffawing.

    Seven out of 10.

    • Trivia
In the beginning of the episode when Chrissy is bending over the sofa looking for her lost gold charm, and says "I lost my charm," Jack makes the joke "Not from where I'm standing." Roger Moore as James Bond made the same joke about 6 years earlier in the beginning of "The Man With the Golden Gun," when a cabaret dancer says the same thing, after a piece of her jewelry gets lost while Bond is fighting a henchman.
