                            The Chimera are coming!!!

Yes, this game takes place in an alternative world where World War II never happened. Instead the threat comes from Russia in the form of mutated humans suffering from a strange virus or something. Though I don't really know for sure, as during the story different things happen throughout to point to strange occurrences and happenings that lead one to believe there are other factors involved in the appearance of the Chimera (the creatures you fight throughout the game). You are Nathan, an American soldier helping the Brits fight to reclaim England. However, the game started out killer hard, I was wondering how in the hell I was going to win it when my character suddenly is infected!!! What has happened, is this the shortest game ever or what? No, you are somewhat immune to the Chimera bug, however, you do get the benefits of having your health being able to regenerate and stuff now, making the game a lot smoother. For the most part this game is your typical shooter, however, it has a couple of differences. For one you get to carry around a whole heck of a lot of weapons instead of the usual two or three others allow you to carry. You also have points in the game where you drive a jeep, a tank, and an alien weapon. Well I guess Halo allowed that as well. So in the end a rather good shooter with some great graphics and pretty good story. Though I prefer seeing my character on screen as it is easier to take cover and dodge.

Call of duty and Halo combined

Welcome to Next Generation gaming, Resistance is the Gears of War of Playstation 3. Incredible graphics, great and lengthy storyline, great multiplayer, awesome weapons, great on and offline gameplay, This game is better than gears of war, and i can prove it. Storyline is much longer, more weapons, better multiplayer, graphics on both games are great, and gears gets boring after a while, and if you don't have xbox live, it'll get REALLY boring, the story is too short, but Resistance's storyline is great, lengthy, detailed, and just fun. If you own a PS3, THEN GO BUY THIS GAME RIGHT NOW

Because this is the first Epic Ps3 masterpiece

Still holds up nearly 20 years later

I remember when Resistance Fall of Man first released it was labelled as one of (if not THE) best games of the early PS3. Playing through it, it was easy to see why. The game took more from Doom and Quake than it did the typical of the time Halo and Call of Duty. At the same time it felt fresh thanks to a nihilistic atmosphere and an enemy as uniquely awesome as it was fiercely grotesque.

When revisiting something from long ago it usually a risky business (whether its simply because of the technology of the time not matching what we are now used to, or just that we are more forgiving as kids/teens), but wanting to give my later consoles a rest, I decided to fire up the old PS3 and started with this.

I am pleased to say that outside of the obvious graphics limitations (although in truth it's still a great looking game) it really doesn't feel like this game has aged a day. Well, for the most part. It's story still works, it lacks typical emotion (we don't have a hero we particularly care about, the story follows a very basic point a to b to c structure), there is this horrifying bleakness to it that makes the entire thing engaging and compelling. If an alien invasion did happen, perhaps it would be like this. The world building is flawless, giving answers where needed and questions where most impactful, with the stars of the show being the chimera - some of gaming's greatest villains. Mass Effect villains ain't got nothing on these perversions of life! And the gameplay is spot on. The shooting is satisfying and responsive, and the guns are all so unique and equally fun to use that you never get bored. That is something Insomniac have always done superbly, and it is in full force here.

My only issues are controller set up is very dated (R1 to fire?), though this can be changed to make it easier. Also despite there being a war on, Hale (our hero) is not in a rush. A sprint button would have been welcomed, if not a slightly faster walk cycle. Outside of saying that Widowmakers can do one and some battle segments are a little too unforgiving, I genuinely have no other issues.

It was a pleasure to rivisit an old favourite and find that I still felt as I did back then. Here's hoping I find the same with game 3, and that game 2 is better than I remember.

Should go down as the FIRST great PS3 game ever made.

Resistance: Fall of Man, at the time of the PlayStation3's initial release, was the only reason to by a PS3. This game, being a FPS, brings a different style of play to the table, combining war-zone tactics with futuristic weapons so that gamers can find more exciting ways to defeat certain parts of the game. The game difficulty seems to digress as you get used to each new weapon or ability. But it is certainly no walk in the park. You won't be able to beat the game in one day either, because it is a very long game, which is just what the PS3 was made to withstand. The story is intriguing. It takes you to a time when the world of man is completely encapsulated in an apocalyptic scene. There seems to be no hope with the dawning of this new species of alien-like creatures who are really humans transformed by a quick spreading virus that soon covers the continents of Asia and Europe. You fight as Nathan Hale, an American soldier sent to Britain to help the British make a final stand. After finding out that Hale has a natural "resistance" to the virus, many begin to believe he is man's last hope.

This fictional account of the apocalypse is unlike any other in that it does not take place in the future, but in the past, in the year 1954, between the ages of WWII, and the Cold War.

Though this I'm sure will not be the best PS3 title ever made, it is certainly the best that is available now, and should, without a doubt go down as the first great game ever made for the counsel. Resistance: Fall of Man get an 8 out of 10 from me. Well done Sony.

The Church of England threatened to sue Sony for the recreation of Manchester Cathedral in the game, unless they gave an apology and removed the game from the shelves. Though the church never attained either as they had no grounds to sue, and sales of the game increased dramatically in the UK.

                              [first lines]

Parker: [narration] The Chimeran threat began in Russia. The origin of the virus is unknown but it's effects were devastating and swift. In the nineteen thirties reports of biological experiments began leaking out of Russia. Then reports of villages destroyed overnight. Then entire cities. We feared the Russians had developed a new superweapon, the truth was far worse. The Chimera stayed sealed in Russia for over a decade. Then in nineteen fourty-nine they launched an attack that overwhelmed all of Europe in a matter of weeks. For several months we thought England was safe, but in October of nineteen fifty, the Chimera burrowed under the channel. We had prepared for them, but within three months time, the war was lost. We abandoned the cities to the Chimera and retreated to scattered military bases and outposts. The Chimera had won. On July the eleventh, nineteen fifty-one, the Americans launched an assault on the eastern coast of England. On the second wave of that assault was a sergeant named Nathan Hale. The actions of that solider have become a matter of both scrutiny and myth. What follows are the known events of his life from July eleventh to July the fourteenth, the day he was last seen. The American soldiers had no idea of what they would soon be facing. The US government had sealed off its borders in nineteen fifty. Radios and newspapers became state property. Only the highest levels of their government knew the truth. The operation was an exchange. The Americans were bringing supplies and tanks into York, we were giving them our one weapon, something we could offer that they couldn't build themselves. I was the commander of the convoy team that was to meet the soldiers. We were ambushed in Manchester on the way to the rendezvous. There was no way to warn the Americans. They were on their own in York, fighting an enemy they knew nothing about. We never learned exactly what happened there, all we know is that Nathan Hale was the sole survivor.
