Not a great show, loved it at the beginning though

Ugly Betty is a very frustrating show following &#39;Ugly&quot; Betty Suarez&#39;s foray into the world of fashion working as an assistant to the Editor of high fashion magazine Mode. There&#39;s enough potential for a pretty engaging television show and it is watchable. However there are many problems. Mainly that the creators and writers don&#39;t seem to know what kind of show they want to make. There are elements of over-the-top bordering on surreal comedy, cutting satire, family drama, conspiracy drama. All these elements can&#39;t possibly work in a television show. It really stretches any suspension of disbelief when in one episode you can have a ridiculously over the top and unrealistic slapstick/surreal comedy even be followed by a situation where a father admits to his daughters that he killed a man years ago and could be deported. It&#39;s ridiculous. The over the top comedy takes from he satire, the satire takes from the over-the-top comedy, the satire and comedy take from the family drama and then to top it all off there is a huge conspiracy and cover-up plot line which takes from everything else. This makes Ugly Betty a very scrappy show that seems to be unable to decide which outfit it likes best, so puts on every item of clothing it owns, which as we all know, doesn&#39;t work. How&#39;s that for a metaphor?

They need to start writing Betty with a backbone! Seriously, what kind of a person stays a doormat to someone who blatantly uses them. Well, who likes people like that anyway? I&#39;m losing respect for this character by the episode! I&#39;m sick of the vision of a New York Snow White! So unrealistic! Give her some gumption if you want me to remain a viewer! AND MAKE HER FALL IN LOVE WITH GIO! HE&#39;S THE HOTTEST THING ON THAT SHOW!!! I seriously love this show, but I need to see a tougher Betty. I&#39;m glad they made Wilhemina nicer, but Betty is getting way too 2 dimensional. Oh, and do you think you could make the sister more feather-headed? And the father more insignificant? I actually am beginning to find some of the stereotypes of the Hispanics on the show are unflattering and suggesting that Hispanics are lower class.

The reason I watch this show anymore is because of Chris Gorham. At the beginning, I found it to be very funny. But the same type of jokes get very old. The recent episode about Mark&#39;s coming out to his homophobic mother was pretty corny. It&#39;s a matter of taste but I feel like the show has gone too far into the dramatic realm. It need to remember that it is a comedy first and foremost. We, the audience, can get plenty of the &quot;important issues&quot; stuff elsewhere, where the &quot;important message&quot; (about homophobia, &quot;inner beauty&quot; etc etc etc) is not so compromised by the show trying to be funny and please everybody. Vanessa William&#39;s bitchy character was also quite riveting at the beginning. But the same goal again and again? Forever scheming for Betty&#39;s boss&#39; job and her plans getting more and more ridiculous? Looks to me like a lack of respect for the character. Rebecca Romjin seems like a lovely person. But her acting skills are not up to her character. She&#39;s the one that really stands out among the generally stellar cast for awkward delivery. So, please go very light on the &quot;issues&quot;. It&#39;s not effective and ends up being very awkward to watch when the tone is first and foremost comedic. And please don&#39;t do the American thing to the character and completely kill her by having her do the makeover thing or have her &quot;outsides match her beautiful insides&quot;, even very slowly. &quot;Inner beauty&quot;, right?

After first half of second season, the writers likely got changed or were out of original ideas. Its a complete borefest from 1.5 season onwards. Every character is so hypocritical and inconsistent in what they say, and what they do in next scene. Only consistent character which was believable in the show is Wilhemina who is the antagonist. Everyone else esp the supposed to be good main characters are all over the place. Betty can never make up her mind who she loves. For her crude looks, she acts way too choosy and indecisive even when 3 guys are interested in her. She moves to new york saying she wants to completely focus on career and not interested in love life, but first thing she does after moving is stalking the neighbor who is a singer/guitar player. Her nasal voice in later episodes is really unbearable. Mr. Daniel Meade has hands full with his petty antics of falling for one woman after another. He no way acts like a responsible editor of magazine, only looking to bang women using his title and Meade lineage. Wilhemina who is antagonist, is the only character who is consistent and functions with sense and logic. She knows what she wants and works towards it in her way. So much that I started liking and supporting Wilhemina more over the main good characters. TLDR: Just stop watching after 1.5 seasons. You will save lot of time avoiding watching garbage confused adults acting like 10 year olds.

This show had so much potential but was wasted on poor writers!! America is fantastic in everything she does! The one playing Daniel is great! The writing again has kept this show down!! Examples of bad writing are the second ever episode! The neighbor breaking into Betty&#39;s home, stealing the book &amp; leaving a note saying she took it! There was no mention of reporting her for breaking &amp; entering to the police! With doing that they could have made a real funny episode! Instead they went a cringe worthy way!! Let&#39;s not leave out Alexis facing no charges for faking his/her own death!! How can that felony be over looked? The Kimmie episodes can&#39;t be overlooked! The first episode she was ever in was fine! Learning about her &amp; Betty&#39;s history was cool &amp; should have ended right there!! Instead they thought putting her at Mode with Betty had to be done! Hated it!! Completely wasted two early episodes in season 3!! These are, as I said earlier sorry writing!! This show deserves a revival with Betty &amp; Daniel returning! Getting good writers is a must!! Barring the writers from this version is a must to do the potential revival justice!!
