How to not do a clip show

There are no spoilers in this review. There's nothing to spoil.

No plot, nothing; most clip shows at least try to tie the clips into the plot by some tenuous stretch, but this didn't even do that. Clips, three lines to lead into the next interminable sequence of dull clips... OK, so perhaps they were short on production time, but they'd have been better off skipping this episode entirely. What a waste of time.

I'm not sure how this got made, in fact. Scrubs is usually much better at subverting tropes, but somehow this got through....

Thank heavens they were back on form by the next episode.

Good soundtrack, but you can't distract from how bad clip shows are

I mean, come on. People will be happier if you air a static image for 90 minutes that just says "I'm shamefully unimaginative."

The only way to make a clip show that isn't utter trash is to use the same cinematic style, but with all new clips. That's it. Stop trying. Doesn't work. No.

You need to think about what's happening in real life!

Yes, although it was a bit poor to put a clip show in mid series, people need to think - "Where's Jordan been the past few episodes?" She was pregnant in real life and seeing as her husband produces the show, If my wide had given birth I wouldn't be in the mood for creating a new episode when I've just had a new baby - so before you ditch the show - some people do have lives you know!!

I was also wondering what happened to Cox's hair, but if you notice - his hair is all grown back in the next episode, so they probably created this clip show before the season in planning for the fact they would be busy with the birth.

I think season 6 hasn't been as well received as the other seasons, but I think they've done it very well - they're all moving forward and the show itself is maturing and the story arcs are getting good!

    A very Scrubs clip show!

Yes it is a clip show, but it's done in a Scrubs, tongue in cheek way. JD even talks about 'killing a couple of minutes. It shows us all parts of Scrubs' themes, happy, sad, funny ones that make you cry. It also has a great soundtrack that helps change emotions. Songs from Joshua Radin and The Fray give an ordinary clip show a very 'Scrubs' feel. Although the clips from old episodes are put there randomly, it shows us how the characters have grown. The clips don't help the story line and were put in random, but they give the episode classic Scrubs humor. Overall, people shouldn't take it seriously and have a bit of fun watching it.

    music from the episode

I thought it was not the best re-cap episode I've every seen (though my viewing partner handed me a tissue in anticipation of the Brendan Fraser moment...*sigh*). It was nice to see Cox outside of the incessantly brittle "Coxism State" he is in these days, if only for brief moments. I also enjoyed trying to place the episodes included by the length of the character's hair (or height, in case of JD) and the youthfulness of the earliest episodes. I can also see how Zach might be well on the way to a very Chevy Chase/or is that Matthew Perry? prat-fall induced chemical slide (already acknowledged on Conan). A little side note, the song (now stuck in my head) from the janitor-induced dance montage was "Diner" by Martin Sexton.

    • Trivia
Chronologically in between episodes "My Words of Wisdom" and "Their Story". In this episode, Dr. Cox has a shaved head. In the following episode "My Fishbowl" he has curly hair again, as the episodes were shown out of order. He doesn't shave his head until 4 episodes later "My Long Goodbye," after commenting that nobody liked his curly haircut.
    • Goofs
In this episode Dr. Cox's head is shaved, even though it isn't in the previous episode or the following episode and he doesn't actually shave his until later in the season as a direct result of a major story development.

Dr. Perry Cox: All right now, children. I know your shifts are over and you're all excited about going home, but first we're going to play a little game called "Answer The Question Correctly Or Stay Here Forever". Debbie... what are the neoplastic causes of hyperprolactinemia?

Debbie: Uh... ectopic tumor production secondary to renal carcinoma?

Dr. Perry Cox: Close, but no ciggie. You'll be staying here forever. Did you think that was a little too mean?

      Intern #1: No...?

Dr. Perry Cox: Wrong. It damn sure was. You're staying here forever. And Kenyan intern, can you answer me this? It is even possible to give the right answer in this game?

      Kenyan Intern: No.

      Dr. Perry Cox: Correct.

      Kenyan Intern: [whispering] Yes!

Dr. Perry Cox: Unfortunately, you're still staying here forever. My game... my rules. Come.
