Haunting Me

I haven't laughed so hard in the longest time. There is great combination of slapstick comedy that embraces the ladyboy culture, and supernatural elements of ghosts, and hauntings. So glad I accidentally stumbled on this, and the movies that followed it on Netflix.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved this movie. I watched the English subtitled version; nothing was lost in translation. The slapstick humor is ridiculous and the antics of the Queens and their friends are hard to beat. I loved every second of this film. It was available on Netflix for a while, but I bought a DVD so I could always have it. I love this movie, I think it's one of my favorites. After I watched this, the Oh My Ghost films showed up in my search on Netflix. Love, love, love this crew so much!

What happens when a ghost story is told not with chills but with shrieks of laughter? Haunting Me takes that gamble, delivering a campy blend of horror, slapstick, and LGBTQ+ parody.

Directed by Poj Arnon, the film follows a group of flamboyant transgender women running a dormitory, only to be confronted by the restless spirit of a murdered student. What could have been a sharp social satire or a clever horror-comedy instead leans heavily on exaggerated stereotypes and chaotic humor. The setup has potential-mixing supernatural elements with marginalized voices-but the execution struggles to find balance.

Analytically, the film's strength lies in its energy. The cast embraces their roles with fearless commitment, turning every scene into a spectacle of camp performance. There are flashes of creativity in combining ghostly tropes with bawdy comedy, and the dormitory setting offers a fertile ground for both scares and laughs.

However, tonal inconsistency dominates. The ghost story is sidelined by endless comedic routines, often repetitive and reliant on caricature rather than wit. Attempts at horror rarely land, as tension is undercut by slapstick, leaving the supernatural plot underdeveloped. For audiences familiar with Thai pop culture and Poj Arnon's flamboyant style, the film may amuse in bursts, but for many, it will feel shallow and scattershot.

Rating: 3/10 - Haunting Me is loud, campy, and colorful, but its lack of narrative focus and reliance on stereotypes make it more exhausting than entertaining.
