A Valiant Effort But Falls Short Of Satisfying A Coming of Age Comedy

Have you ever rented a movie title that you had never heard about, and then after viewing the film, you were pleasantly surprised by how well it hit the target with you? Well if you have, keep looking on the video store shelves because I suggest you may just want to take a pass on The Weekend. This film was just another of the many campy movie genre films that tries to capture the camp success of previous films such as the American Pie trilogy, and to some extent, even films from the early 1970's such as The Summer of 42 and the Class of 44.

One of the first signs that I look for to assess whether a film may have some potential or not, is to see if the writer and the director are one and the same person, or if the writer and director are two separate people. Nine out of ten times when the writer and director are one and the same person the film tends to be a flop. The Weekend is such a film. Michael Todd Kuskin deserves some credit for his attempt at writing and directing this film since the actors he put on the screen were pretty good. I just did not enjoy the story line which consists of a bunch of teenage kids who are coming of age and trying to party like there will be no tomorrow and then circumstances present themselves to these hormone raged teenagers that one by one they fall victim to a prank and/or a nearby parent.

Yes, the story is a common one and sometimes such as with the American Pie trilogy the story works and appeals to a vast audience base. The Weekend though, is just a valiant attempt by writer/director Michael Todd Kuskin to try and copy some of the success of earlier films but unfortunately falls short, and I just didn't relate to any one of the characters, or their personal story as being very interesting.

The musical score is another example of how the film tries to maintain an upbeat and hip story, but even the music is not catchy enough to keep an audience remembering The Weekend and wanting for a sequel. Thus in the past 7 years we have yet to see a sequel or a second production by writer/director Michael Todd Kuskin.

I gave The Weekend a 4 out of 10 and I suggest that you will also be disappointed (as I was) if you choose to watch the film.

    Please don't see this 'movie'

I wouldn't like to waste more time on this crap than I've already did, but I feel that I need to warn people. The script is bad, the filming even worse and the acting fits perfectly with the script and filming.

The Weekend seems to be the first movie ever by Michael Todd Kuskin and I hope he will make (much) better movies in the future, of maybe no other movie at all. The people that gave this movie a rating over 5 are involved in making this movie, I think. I can't repeat it enough, this movie is really bad and please don't make the same mistake I did. Spend time on it... Actually, you've wasted more time on this movie by reading this text than it's worth.

To conclude. If you have too much time on your hands and nothing nice to do I still suggest you do something else than watching this movie.

    Pice of crap

This movie sucks big time. First of all it doesn't even look like movie. It seems some pathetic TV serial which could not be aired on television (obviously due to shitty screenplay, script) and then they bundled it into a movie.

I watched it for 30 mins continuously and after that , I resorted to fast-forwarding it, looking for some thing that will keep me interested, but even then the movie revolved around the same stupid party scene, 2 (gay) friends in car and blah blah blah.

This movie should be banned ,

so as nobody on this planet waste his precious 90 minutes of life.

    Boring

I stopped watching about half way through the movie, I was just too bored to see it through to the end.

I actually enjoy teen movies even though I'm getting older, but there was just nothing in this one that could keep my attention.

The acting seemed wooden and the whole editing and camera work just radiates boring to me.

As for the jokes, they where not funny at all, I can't actually remember a single line or joke from the movie and it is only 2 days ago that I tried to watch it.

    Avoid.

Pretty Awful Even As Teen Comedies Go

Looks like the director's friends put in some good words for him at IMDb just looking at the comments for this movie. I'm sorry, but this is one of the absolute worst teen comedies I have ever seen, and that's saying a lot. This movie makes the latter American Pie sequels seem like absolute masterpieces in comparison. That's how bad this movie was. Terrible acting. It didn't seem like there was ANY chemistry between the actors. These supposed high school students all looked like they were in their mid to late 20s. There wasn't really anything funny at all in the movie, and the pace was terribly slow and sluggish. Don't let the plant comments fool you, this movie is utter garbage. Don't say I didn't warn you.
