Solid but I'm waiting for the Kurtzman Effect
This was a solid start. But that's nothing new with Trek under these producers. The problem maybe comes in a couple of episodes.. but we'll see.
I think the introduction of these characters was good, also the overall style is a little more slick and better rendered. Sometimes it feels though, people are standing in front of a virtual production LED studio wall.
I could also do without the Vulcan stuff. The "bitchy girlfriend" part was inappropriate for Vulcans. Let's hope there's no more of that.
The comedy feels like CBS/Paramount wants to get the audience back that abandoned new Trek for the Orville. It's too obvious for my taste.
And of course, this is 2022, so there are a lot of strong opinionated women on the bridge.
Let's see where it goes and if the balance gets adjusted a little. And writers, please remember: it's sci-fi, not magic.
