Captain to the fridge

From the comforting opening credits and sounds, to the introduction of familiar friends, this is a fabulous introductory episode. The retro style, single story episode is a welcome return to a beloved format after recent departures and bodes well for this series which boasts a strong cast.

Very much enjoyed this and am looking forward to episode two.

Off to a good start

More complex dialogue, less swearing, a return to the principles that is what Trek is actually about. The show seems to be more character focused, with more rational people that are up to the standards someone that has gone through the academy.

This show feels like Trek so far. Hopefully they keep that up, and also hopefully the writing isn't just bait and switch to C rate writing. We shall see, but the first episode deserves some praise.

Strong start for a Star Trek series

Strong start for a Star Trek series.. The show has everything that it takes to be a good Star Trek series: from an engaging cast to an episodic format that will not get bogged down with the type of storylines that have been in other modern Trek. The first episode was quite reminiscent of the original series as well as some of the other subsequent series.

This "feels" right. Finally.

There's likely a couple things that people more politically charged are going to get angry about, but by doing so, they're missing the point. This episode went as good as it possibly can for the first entry of a new series. It's absolutely the best episode of Trek I've seen in the last 20 years.

YES !!!!! Pike !!!

I've adored Jeffrey Hunt's Capt. Pike my entire life, and every iteration of Pike since. Anson Mount is brilliant in pretty much everything (he did not get enough credit for Black Bolt). I new I wanted this series while watching Discovery, but I didn't know that withing the first minute and forty-five seconds I'd be out-of-my-mind thrilled. THIS SERIES IS A MUST SEE FOR EVERY FAN OF TOS, TNG, and the Pike/Kirk era's. And Rebecca's #1 does full tribute to Majel. If Season 1 ends with Kirk being introduced to Pike and Spock I'll have a heart attack. PS: Bring on the Michelle Yeoh Section 31 Series *makes gimme hands*

Back to Star Trek basics...GOOD!!

Yes...right where it should be. Back to the single episode story telling.

The characters are compelling and the actors earned their pay.

Lets see how it goes. I was well pleased.

This is a perfect sci-fi show.

So this is a perfect show. I wasn't really looking forward to this, after the downward turn of Discovery. I was wrong, I was wrong!

Basically all the integrity of TNG with the explorers spirit of ToS. You might have to get over the fact things aren't exactly as you know them from the broken... disjointed timeline that has been cobbled together over a 50 year period in a way that was never intended. I did.

Watch it. Love it. Thank me later.

Episode One...Hit It

Been waiting for Pike to take command of Enterprise in this timeline and he delivered in a cool manner. This shows offers so much diversity and opportunity, the writers must meet the challenge of boldly writing great voyages. The interpersonal relationships (conflict and bonding) I can already image. But I am really excited to see how the Prime Directive will "stick" in this series.

For the trekkers and trekkies, seems we are going to still be in business.

Star Trek has Returned! Finally

This is a great opening episode. A true return to Star Trek, I hope it continues.

The single episode story is the way to go, and we are getting to know the crew and I like it.................. a lot.

There is only gripe, the brother of James T Kirk, Samuel Kirk Why? I am hoping that SNW will stay away from being Kirk heavy.

This is a solid start

What can i say, at the end of the episode i realised this was a very good episode, with great effects, a great intro, a great story, great costumes and what it is more important, this something which really looks like a good old fashioned Star Trek series.

Every new Star Trek is avoiding default Vulcan's rules

Vulcans by default rules created in 1965 don't show (or have) emotions, they can't be in love, happy, sad, mad etc. But every new Star Trek series is removing/avoiding these rules more.

Wee see kissing of two Vulcans in 1st episode. Big mistake. Vulcans express love to another Vulcan by touching his fingers.

In 2nd episode we hear Vulcan laughing. Another big mistake. Vulcan can't smile, laugh or cry.

Awesome

This. This is what's been missing. This felt like Star Trek. Tough philosophical questions with no easy answers mixed with fun dialogue and scenes. Anson Mount continues to excel as Pike, and the rest of the cast is also wonderful.

I am really excited to see where we go from here.

This... is Star Trek!

The pilot episode was phenomenal! It is better than TNG, better than Discovery, as good as or better than TOS!

The stage is set. The characters are plausible and feel... connected. Perhaps it's knowing 55 years of canon, of what Trek is... of what it was... SNW hit it out of the park.

I wish all Star Trek was like this.

Amazing first episode, hope it doesn't go the way of Picard

I am holding my breath here, this episode was phenomenal it had everything we ever wanted from StarTrek without the garbage virtue-signaling everywhere, I mean we still have it but somehow it works well, here we can see the difference between good writing and acting and poorly delivered soap material.

I felt just as great about the first two episodes of Picard though and then it went to complete hell, so well see. I am holding my breath I really hope this goes well I really don't want StarTrek to ever die.

I wonder how long until they screw it up.

The first episode is much better than I expected. Far superior to other recent shows called "Star Trek" but are really not. The first few minutes were slow and boring, but it did get better. I was distracted by the Buffy vampire makeup and I thought inserting genetic manipulation when all the "future" series use cosmetics to simulate alien appearance was lame. Changing established mechanics because you think you have a better idea is pretentious and arrogant. Still, it gave Nurse Chapel something to do so we could see Jess Bush's delightful performance. And Celia Rose Gooding as a young starry-eyed Uhura has promise. I'm not a fan of this version of Spock, but maybe he'll grow into the part. All things considered not a bad start for the new series; on par with Encounter at Farpoint I think. I wonder how long until they screw it up.

Hit it

Yeah, this is well done.

Star Trek has always been a socially aware series so... I fully expected to get hit over the head with the neo-left agenda going in to this. Not so much, I was surprised the episode skirts the middle for the most part. All that aside.

What an absolutely beautiful series, possibly the most cinematic series premiere I have ever seen. I mean holy cow, that production is absolutely off the charts. The special effects are top notch, cinematography is excellent, and lots of call backs with the music and sfx. It's a series premiere so the episode is heavy on exposition, when it comes to the dialog and writing, but that's all excusable. But the structure of the episode is a direct call back to the OG series and Next Generation, and that is the real brilliance of the episode.

My only worry is whether the production values, and the general momentum, can be maintained through a season. We shall see, I'm hoping it continues to be successful. I'm on board, looking forward to this one.

Solid but I'm waiting for the Kurtzman Effect

This was a solid start. But that's nothing new with Trek under these producers. The problem maybe comes in a couple of episodes.. but we'll see.

I think the introduction of these characters was good, also the overall style is a little more slick and better rendered. Sometimes it feels though, people are standing in front of a virtual production LED studio wall.

I could also do without the Vulcan stuff. The "bitchy girlfriend" part was inappropriate for Vulcans. Let's hope there's no more of that.

The comedy feels like CBS/Paramount wants to get the audience back that abandoned new Trek for the Orville. It's too obvious for my taste.

And of course, this is 2022, so there are a lot of strong opinionated women on the bridge.

Let's see where it goes and if the balance gets adjusted a little. And writers, please remember: it's sci-fi, not magic.

Meh

Don't be fooled. This is just a slick coat of paint over a dying and worn out franchise. There's no depth to this tired story of breaking the prime directive, and the lesson is so cringe and feel-good that I almost expected the crew to start singing Imagine. Spock should've been pulling his hair out the whole time, but as usual the writers don't understand Vulcans or how to portray different points of view. Everyone's desperate to drop a cool or witty line. They all bumble through the mission and things happen because the writers want them to, not because it makes sense. Captains don't say engage anymore, they say hit it. Beats Picard and STD, but still a disappointment.

To those of you complaining about the inclusion of Jan 6

You guys REALLY have a complex about anything political at all. I thought that SNW went out of its way to NOT pass judgement on MAGA/Whatever you wanna call it. They talked about "competing versions of liberty"...meaning that both the sides in our current situation are out for liberty. SNW was NOT tying MAGA/Trump/whatever to being the doom of the world...it was tying the current situation and the difference in "versions of liberty" and conflict itself.

For professing to hate safe spaces and trigger warnings, you all certainly have a complex for looking for any sign of being picked on. The fact is, despite them proclaiming a hatred of grievance holding, the alt right has extroardinarily thin skin. And despite the 'woke' proclaiming that they are wanting to be protecting diversity, they are against diversity of thought.

I feel sorry for those on both sides who are right now so incredibly ingrained in the social battles in the US nowadays, that you cant enjoy ANYTHING that even closely looks at the 'other' side in a good light or criticizes 'your' side.

Grow the hell up

Per the actual episode, I had virtually no expectations for SNW after the busts of Disco and Picard...but I largely thought think SNW does a good job of going back to the original formula of "popping into different worlds" thing. Will the NuTrek producers screw this one up too? Probably. But absent a couple problems, SNW so far seems much better than the whole of the other two.
