Solid but not perfect

Don't get the negativity. If it's too "woke" it's bad. If it's too "simple" it's bad. If it's too "deep" it's bad. What's wrong with a light hearted simple comedy like this these days? Nothing.

This is just a rehash of an old stereotypical story of a Mexican guy becoming rich, except that's kind the point, the comedy is supposed to come from this because parts of it are silly as older Maximo tries to tell the story of how he got to be rich while kind of embellishing the story (which takes place in the 80s in a resort in Acapulco) and telling it to a young kid. Light hearted simple stuff. Pretty solid if that's what you're after and nicely filmed.

I think what the real problem is Apple doesn't market these shows well. The trailers give no real sense of what it is, who it's for, or even do a good job of making the show attractive to any audience let alone it's target.

Nostalgic in a Multitude of Ways

I just found this show during my free trial of AppleTV+ and I've managed to binge most of it in a single night. I'm already glad there's gonna be a second season coming out soon! So, not only is this show a throwback to the 80s in terms of aesthetic, it's a throwback to the days of writing character arcs that don't move too fast or aren't chopped up. Every person has a reason to be on screen and advance the story, which never lulls. Between the story, acting and production values, I can't really ask much more from a show. Glad I started it, and I will continue watching. Kudos to everyone involved!

Great show!

The people that are giving this show bad reviews really don't know what they are talking about. I don't want to assume but I feel that most of the hate comes from the show being bilingual. I hope they get a season 2. I'm invested now.

Awesome Feel Good TV

I have no clue why everyone expects everything should be so deep when new shows are released.. this show ROCKS! Its nostalgic and extremely original and makes you feel good while watching. Why in the world is that a bad thing? The acting is good the character chemistry is fantastic and the storyline is something everyone can relate to. I am giving this show a 10/10!

Likable

Main character is adorable. This is a sweet goofy show. Not a serious series so take it for what it is.

Solid new comedy

I honestly don't understand the bad reviews. I get if you don't find the resort pool-boy setting interesting, but 1 star?? It feels like some of these people just don't like Apple focusing on a Mexican family. It's not even all Spanish.

Anyway, the show is pretty simple, with an older version of the main character narrating the story to his grandson, which is a bit cliched, but the story has heart and I found myself laughing a few times.

Escapism at his best

I get that these days series have to be either controversial, political or "squid game" brutal to differentiate themselves but I think we need more of these easy watch good feeling series right now. Yes it's not realistic, yes could be better but it's enjoyable, characters are likeable and the visual are fun, so yes let's not be overly critical about it and compare it to other series out there who are trying to push the boundaries. So far so good!

Sweet and nostalgic

This was excellent from start to finish, full of nostalgic 80s material. Cute story, great cast. Definitely can't understand the bad reviews, it's an easy watch.

Great show!

I can't believe these bad reviews. This show is charming and lovely and funny. It's my new favorite show. It's feel good tv to escape this horrible world for a moment. Do not believe the negative comments. The lead man is handsome and charismatic. Watch the show for yourself and decide.

Funny

It is promising as a nice comedy tv series. I'm also enjoying the way it portrays excesses from the '80s.

Could be a surprising underdog tv series as it was for Ted Lasso.

Sweet and Nostalgic

Certainly the show is not for everyone and not everyone will appreciate it's sweet tone. I am a Spanish speaker so the show is easier for me to enjoy. It took me away to another place and time and I am thoroughly on board. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Lovely series

It's a lovely, entertaining and light series. It's a bit like Jane the Virgin. The environment is absolutely beautiful, the characters are loveable. I really liked it.

Just terrible

As we say in Mexico, another 'churrote'. Same old story full of Mexican stereotypes where the poor become a millionaire without doing anything extraordinary.

It is not that bad, negative reviewers.

Update 11/28/2022. This show is still awesome. One of my favorite shows to just kick back and enjoy a really well written easy comedy with great cinematography. Plus the casting could not be any better. I sure hope Apple renews it. I feel like it does not get as much attention or advertising as it deserves.

Sure, I agree that it is a little cheesy and "feel good", similar to Ted Lasso but sometimes my cold black heart needs that. I am more of a horror, dark comedy or fantasy kind of guy but sometimes it is nice to watch an easy show like this.. The cinematography is great and it is beautiful to look at. It gives me the itch.to visit Puerto Vallarta again soon. It is filmed in PV, not Acapulco.

I just finished episode 5 and feel like the acting and comedy has gotten better with each episode. I would watch a season 2..

Give it a chance.

Really, give it a chance. Give a chance to all the cast and all the creators, writers and producers. Its a really loving, fun show, done with a lot of care and off to a good start. It is lovely to see original productions taking risks. We as a family are loving it.

Because I can't give it a "12"

If you don't like this show, then return to your home planet, please. This is one of the sweetest, cleanest, most adorable shows I have ever seen. It is fabulously written with humor and life lessons, filled with wonderful and charming characters, and the way the story is told, in a series of flashbacks to a bygone day... is genius.

In addition to being THE MOST UNDERRATED/UNKNOWN show on television today, it is totally a "family watch!" No nudity, no foul language, something for everyone. I normally wait until a series concludes to review a show... but I'm caught up (the Season 2 finale was the best 35 minutes of TV I have seen this year), and people need to hear this now. I can't wait for season 3, and I hope it runs for 20 years. Two thumbs HUGELY UP! Brilliant. Start it tonight.

Great show, one of the best apple tv shows for 2021

Reminded me of Gentefied, both have similar elements of family, drama, friendship, inclusion and a warm funny story. Very well written, directed and the scenery was terrific.

Felt it was too short with too many loose ends and waiting for season 2.

This year also gave us White lotus which would cover themes of any of the guests at this resort.

The Prequel

As I was watching the first episode I kept thinking the characters seemed so familiar! So I went to look and found 'How to be a Latin Lover' and I was right!! The character names are all the same. The story line fits. So if you loved the movie you'll like the series. I've seen the first two episodes and the kid is still cute and even though the acting seems kind of forced at times, the flashbacks are pretty entertaining. My review...it's a sweet show that has some great potential. I'm going to keep watching.

Something for everyone

Love the multiple storylines and bilingual and I don't speak Spanish. Positive and funny. All generations represented. I wish this was marketed a bit more. I stumbled on to it after finishing Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest. Very happy I did.

Cute, but you don't need the modern part

This show won't be winning any awards, but it's very cute and feel good. I enjoy spending time in the world of Las Colinas. I just don't see the point of the present day part. The acting is terrible, and the dialogue is even worse. Ditch this part and focus on the show in the past and it would improve tremendously.

Charming 1980s nostalgia

I don't think Acapulco was ever supposed to be a slap stick laugh-a-minute comedy show; which obviously has disappointed some grumpy viewers here. Each episode is a sweet, goofy, charming trip back in time to a Mexican resort in 1984. The well developed characters and story lines deliver it all with such honest wholesome good humor... there's ambition, cultural peculiarities, heart-breaking sacrifice, consequences, coming of age, the struggle for social mobility, love, friendship and plenty of surprises in the series . There are humorous scenarios that nod to TV classics like I Love Lucy. The show also touches on some subjects that our younger viewers may miss, or take for granted today... several episodes shine on the perils of being gay in the 1980s, the social and economic struggles single moms were up against... The scrappy aging B rated Hollywood starlet/single mother with her self-obsession, insecurities and self-doubt who engage with grace in the daily struggle to maintain the high standards she has for her beloved resort...The employees who love the resort equally... The people and friendships who's lives are shaped by the resort... Acapulco is a totally unique bilingual comedy that delivers surprises throughout. Sure there are some cliché jokes that poke a little fun at both cultures, but even those were delivered so cleverly. Yes, there's a cheese factor too, but come on the show is set in 1984! The cheesiest decade ever. If you're one of these viewers who's panned the show because you didn't laugh your ass off the entire episode, or you couldn't get past a hint of 80s cheesiness... then you just missed the whole point. It's all in good fun. My wife and I enjoyed every sweet second of season one, and are hoping so much a season two is in the works.

Shamelessly goofy and cheesy but great fun

This is very colourful and bright to watch, so it's a nice break from the chilly (just now) U. K.

it's fun, silly and at times, especially near the end of season 1, it gets very funny indeed with some great gags and slapstick. It's an untaxing watch with plenty of readily likeable characters. One of my first jobs was working in a big department store with a plethora of characters and adventures and while this is mainly set in a sunny beach hotel it has a familiar feel to it with staff at the hotel and a few non hotel characters negotiating life, work and love interest.

Cute and entertaining.

If you're looking for a serious drama, sitcom style show or a show that requires critical thinking this isn't it.

This show is entertaining, funny and hits on various aspects of a young man's life.

I look forward to the new episodes to enjoy with my wife.

Grab some popcorn, snacks and beverages kick back and enjoy.

Didn't last one episode.

Just bad. From the initial dialogue with the kid's overacting to the Chad cliche.

Just not good.
