Sigourney Weaver, Bruce Willis, and Henry Cavill in The Cold Light of Day (2012)

Seriously not as bad as everyone says!

A guy goes on a vacation with his family and then his family disappears. He spends the rest of the time trying to find them and learns some difficult things about his dad. Comparisons to Bourne Identity are stupid. This is not like Bourne. This guy has no training as a covert agent. He goes through an awful lot of bad stuff trying to find his family.

That being said, Bruce Willis is not in that much of the movie. This is a Henry Cavill movie. And he's pretty darn attractive to watch.

There is a lot of action, lot of shooting, beating up, etc. Crooked government people.

But overall, not a bad movie to watch!! If you wanted to see Bourne, go watch that movie!

4.8

I have to disagree with the bourne analogy.I just don't see it ,after watching the movie I felt it went in a bit of a different direction and I actually thought the movie was entertaining, and cavill seemed unaware for the most part what was going on.Was it a blockbuster,or huge like the bourne's ? No.But it had merit and I am I admit,a little into cavill, and think he is on the rise.the thing is though,is that they are doing a lot of movies along this same line.Still, all in all, though its not great,i wouldn't go so far to say that its not worth a watch. There may be a few mistakes and oddities in the show, but still it kept my attention to the end.the storyline seems to lack here and there, but I guess I still think it turns out to be a fairly good watch.

Why so many haters?

I don't understand the level of (apparent) hatred for this movie?!

Yes, it was a very (very) typical action thriller type movie but surely we know what we are getting in to when we watch movies like this?!

It is simple entertainment, linear story, good acting, almost believable plot and constantly moving. What more do we expect from this genre. It wasn't that long ago that we were awe struck by a movie with some passengers on a bus that couldn't drop below fifty miles per hour or it would blow up, yet we complain about the story line in this movie. And we should not forget that with actors like Cavill, Weaver and Willis shouldn't we review their abilities to act as brilliantly as they do? I guess some folks were just disappointed that Cavill never once ripped his shirt off to reveal a super hero below..

Synopsis: Not the best, far from the worst, great entertainment if you aren't expecting a movie with a myriad of plot twists. This has great actors and pretty much non-stop action with some great scenery to boot. Worthy of a fill in between the super hero movies.

Visually stunning and decent acting. However the movie comes apart at the seams halfway through.

Despite the really poor reviews. I decided to watch this flick based on the cast and the fact that it was action movie. It definitely wasn't as bad as reviewers made it seem.

Pros:

-The visuals were the best part of this whole movie. I was really impressed how great this film looked.

-I enjoyed Henry Cavill in leading role outside of Superman and definitely hope to see him in more in the future.

-The movie had some really good action/chase scenes as well that were engaging.

Cons:

-Bruce Willis diddn't really play a big part in this film and the scenes he was in seemed like they were phoned in.

-The movie is littered with scenes that are unneeded and add virtually zero to the story.

-My biggest issue with the movie is that plot is awfully confusing at times. Even as the movie was ending I still found myself quite lost at few things.

Overall its decent movie but its not amazing. Definitely worth a watch though however.

From someone who really watched to the end

I have to tell you, I had a nice time watching this one. Enough suspense, solid plot which slowly develops, H. Cavill was on the receiving end of a LOT of violence: car crashes, shots, beatings, falling off a building.... Solid performance, showing the actor who he is going to become in our day. The rest of the cast did not impress me much, good or bad, they did their part. Would have liked a bit more development of their characters as well.

As others said: great car chase! Really.

So without too many expectations going in because of a lot of bad reviews here I must conclude a lot of the reviewers did not watch it completely, some even not at all.

All you want to know is "Should I watch it?". Yes if you want some entertainment and suspense. No if you expect conspiracies and intrigue. I had a fun time with it.

Good average action movie..

This movies has a fast paced euro style movie over it. I saw it on DVD and was satisfied and surprised that it wasn't as bad as IMDb viewers thought it was. this movie reminded me of the movie RONIN also an Euro action movie - with a background setting in east Europe. but this time instead of East Europe its a Spanish city. Mabrouk El Mechri (JCVD 2008)is the director of this fast paced movie and as a director he does not have a big background in making action movies - and it shows! - even though there a couple of very good car chase scenes reminiscence of the cool movie Ronin . If i have to say anything good about this movie it would be that this movie has an honest appeal to its approach to the plot and the characters in the movie. The lead character in this film is not Bruce Willis but his "son" played by Will Shaw (Henry Cavill)(2013 Superman), as an actor he did a great job in the epic flick: Immortals. This time plays a young Wall Street trader. At first we see henry trying to find his way in this who's-done-it story - but he ends up being better at dealing with bad guys then doing stock trading. A Borne-wanna-be or a young Bond. The movie it self lends parts of its plot lines from different movies - but it would be wrong to compare it with the "Borne" series, witch is superior to this average movie - the pace is fast - characters are not that believable and some of the actors are of Claude van Dame standard yet still fun to watch. don't expect to much - this movie can best be viewed on a DVD if you absolutely need your action fix. but save your money if if your a cinema goer. i give it a 7 to pull the ratings up - from those who where stupid enough to give it 1. its not that bad - but its definitely and average movie no better then Fast & furious series or any action flick from Claude or Chuck N.

An early Henry Cavill action flick.

I came into this as a big fan of Henry Cavill and only watched this movie because of him, I was surprised how good it actually was, maybe not story wise but with the action. I think that Henry was great as the lead with it been one of his early breakout roles and he controlled most of the movie. Sigourney Weaver played an interesting antagonist that you just love to hate, and other than that it was pretty average movie. I think that movie was too fast paced at times and could've really let it slow down to make more of a story however I would only recommend if you're a fan of Henry Cavill like myself otherwise I'd leave this one out.

Action packed start to finish

Totally underrated at 4.9. Action from start to finish. Story line not dumbed down. And even the acting is okay. Is this in the action genre? I'm not sure what people are looking for anymore. I mean if Speed back in 1994 can have a rating of 7.2, a hijacked bus which keeps speeding around the whole movie coupled with mediocre acting... You get my point. If you want spy drama, and underdog, an action thriller, well worth a watch.

Good

Bruce Willis as Martin is the only reason to watch this self-congratulatory piece of meat. Willis has been a leading counter-culture figure since the 1980s. What he brings to this film is indescribable. Absolutely indescribable. One shudders to think what it would have been without this wise man's presence. One thing is certain: It would not be worth watching. Heck, even with Willis it is barely worth watching. I'm not sure who their audience was. I saw this movie for the first time when it was released in the theaters. For all practical purposes, this is a bad film. Nonetheless, I award this one a rating of seven out of ten.
