I'm begging you not to see this movie. It makes 'Gothica' look like 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. See Gothica again. It just takes pieces of other successful to semi-successful movies of this ilk and copies them. Whole-heartedly unoriginal and a very lame attempt to capitalize on his own name using "Vintage Carpenter" as a marketing ploy, which is what? Halloween? The Thing? Seriously, the only thing of his that I've enjoyed since 'The Thing' is 'Masters of Horror: Cigarette Burns.' I won't tell you anything about 'The Ward' other than it is unoriginal; I don't want to ruin it if you're excited about it. However, I am begging you to save the money and the time that Carpenter would have you waste on his latest project. He's probably j*****g off to the mental images of Heard and Co. in the shower, which he didn't show on screen... may have helped the cause, Johnny.

Now i don't usually go to the trouble of writing reviews, but people need to be warned...
This movie is absolutely hopeless, i mean i've watched a reasonable amount of horror movies and can safely say that this one is the worst by far. I don't know what it is, perhaps it's the terrible acting or the lack of a good plot. Maybe it's just the fact that this movie fails to scare you and instead makes you wonder what you were thinking when you decided to watch it. Now people have compared this movie to Shutter Island which disappoints me greatly, as Shutter Island is such a good movie (you should watch Shutter Island) and this really, seriously isn't.
Look i'd advise people not to waste their time watching this pathetic excuse for a horror movie, but hey, if you want to fall asleep thats completely up to you.

"The Ward" is a tedious, pointless movie that would only impress a 13- year-old who wasn't picky and who scared very, very, very easily.
First of all, most of the actresses have very simple roles to play as mental patients, but none of them are remotely capable. They tend to broadly indicate to the audience that "I am imitating a cliché of a crazy person" instead of actually playing it natural or trying to be convincing or even interesting. It's a pain to watch unless you've only seen a few movies in your life and have very low expectations.
The attempts at scares are uniformly unimpressive and often hamfisted. If you at least want jump scares or fun thrills, you'll be very disappointed.
The movie's twist ending fails to reward the audience for sitting through this mess. The "twist" is an abysmal cliché that reminds me of stories my cousin wrote when he was 15 and trying too hard to be clever.
It's hard to believe John Carpenter directed this. Even the editing and pacing are disappointing. Stay far away from this sorry excuse for a film.

Well that was 90 odd minutes I won't get back! It was trying too hard, like it wanted to be 'Girl Interrupted '. Girl... Bye!
This film would have been good in a 1950's cinema. Havant they got the idea that showing a zombie ghost is not going to get bums on seat anymore? I believe a good horror should be something that stretches the audience's imagination. I think somehow the rest of my city knew the quality of this film except me and few other unfortunates. There were 5 of us in a cinema with a seating capacity about 300 people.
The film makers tried to create something similar to Shutter island and failed terribly. I think it wouldn't have cost them much to make this film, as the whole film seems to be shot in three rooms. Oh I know its called the ward, so they were being true to the word. Please Please don't waste your money. My suggestion to the Director and the story writer and ultimately the producer is Don't WASTE YOURS AND OUR TIME IN MAKING FILMS LIKE THIS. Carpenter, sorry mate you need to go back your drawing board. seriously sell your old stories in a jumble sale.

Maybe carpenters worst. Amber heard holds back any potential this film had with her lack of range, she can't act her out out of a wet paper bag. Her trying to channel emotion make the film almost feel comedic at times, so props to her I guess for pulling that off. I can't get out of my head how horrible she was.like embarrassingly bad.

Another decent film (or so you think) but is completely ruined by it's ending just like SHUTTER ISLAND, IDENTITY & THE UNINVITED!!!
John Carpenter is my all time favourite Director but his The Ward is by far his worst film.
Amber Heard is a good actress & puts in a really good performance but in the end it's all for nothing!!! Completely pointless because of it's stupid ending.

The acting in this is cringe inducing. I'm trying to push through and watch it but I keep having to pause and take breaks. It has a Tommy Wiseau vibe to it. This may be unwatchable, but it's yet to be determined. I felt compelled to pause after the first 20 minutes to come write this. I had oral surgery today, and am required to lay around for the next 24 hours. This is the only reason I'm going to try to push through this. I genuinely have nothing better to do.
I am stunned that Jared Harris is in this film. It's like Yo-yo Ma took a job as conga player in a regional ska cover band. I can't imagine how he felt on the set. I get he has bills to pay but jfc.
