Seriously? Where are the life vests that are required to have on board? And was there no emergency self inflating raft? You know the tented domed kind. No self respecting sailor would go out in the middle of the ocean without one. Just all out awful movie. HORRIBLE!! Did not even finish.

The Reef was supposedly one of the best horror movies of 2010. I was 12, and I wasn't allowed to watch it when it came out because all the reviews said it was horrifying and one of the best shark attack movies out there. I waited for years to watch this and finally watched it a few years ago.

How bad this is still haunts me whenever I want to watch a shark attack movie. "What if it's as bad as The Reef?" flashes through my head whenever I settle down to watch a new movie in the genre.

I don't understand how this has so many positive reviews and such a high rating. It was absolute trash.

First of all, getting stranded in the middle of nowhere? Stereotypical trope that wasn't done great in any form of the word. And after saying this, the part where he goes into the sunken boat to get supplies is probably the tensest part of the entire movie.

Then we have the survival. And the main characters just being absolutely ridiculous and doing nothing that would keep them alive. Going out of the group to grab a float that you DON'T need because it MIGHT make things a little better for you whilst you swim for safety. Why would anyone in their right mind do that instead of, hey I don't need this let's just keep swimming to safety.

The shark 'attacks' themselves aren't even remotely realistic. Sharks don't act like that unless provoked and there only chance that the shark would be hunting down these humans to eat is if it had eaten humans before. Shark 'attacks' are actually very unlikely and mostly happen because a surfer is mistaken for a seal. There was obviously no research done into sharks - the only fact they got right was that great white sharks hunt alone.

And oh the mistakes. There are two times here different characters injure themselves and then just scenes later, the injuries are gone. It's not even discreet. Who watched this through for consistency? If there was anyone, they definitely shouldn't get a job for this again. It was horrendous and was a sore thumb that really annoyed me and made the movie even less realistic than it already was. The acting itself was absolutely poor and it was so unbelievable that these people were being hunted by a shark. Their horror just seemed fake.

Seriously, don't watch this movie. Skip it, cross it off your horror movie to watch list. If you want a decent shark attack movie, watch The Shallows, or Jaws. Don't waste an hour and a half of your life on this movie.

If you're looking for the new "Jaws" just stay away from this movie!

If you're looking for realistic special effects, good acting, a reasonable story, suspense and fear you'll have to look somewhere else! Bad acting, highly predictable "attacks" (you won't even be surprised by the false attack scene), only a couple special effects in the whole movie so bad you will look back to H.G Lewis movies with different eyes, a story heard so many times that we really didn't need a movie like that!

Another son of big mass distribution of horror movies, those stupid things that only childish people will be watching tighten to the chair!

Having enjoyed the terrible Sharknado franchise for the ridiculous movie plots and ideas, I thought I would try something similar.

This; however, was awful. There was a real lack of action scenes, a lack of any acting and a lot of just watching people sit in the water!

There was no comedy element like in Sharknado, there was a lack of horror and a lack of an actual movie. This movie earns itself a new movie genre, bland.

Based on an apparent true story where a tiger shark attacked a group, in the movie a great white shark was used, so it cannot even be put in the documentary/reconstruction category.

This is the worst movie I have seen but I would only recommend this to someone who wants to learn more about floating in the ocean.

The description I read about this movie indicated that it was supposed to be exciting, with a lovely splash of gore, yet this movie could not be any thing farther from that. The characters (and actors that play them) are stiff, and when their time does come, I felt little remorse (because of how robotic the people seemed to be). Please do not waste your time watching this movie. It is anti-climatic and the ending is anything but satisfying. I noticed it has a 5.8 on IMDb, but frankly, it deserves closer to a 3.0. Total disappointment, and a shame to all shark movies out there.

The movie is based on true events, and my heart goes out to the victims of such terrible events. Yet, the execution of this supposed true story not only fails to emphasize the gravity of the horror, but completely lacks in the execution, making me think that this story should have never been told (in the form of this movie).

This is not a film. It's a bunch of irritating people swimming in the water. So what is it, if it's not a film? It's an attempt at simulating the experience of swimming in the open sea, with sharks swimming around. That's all it is. Actually, some of the encounters with the shark are done rather well technically, but I still give this thing one star.

After loosing their boat, the characters in this film need to swim a really long distance to get to an island. They basically just float around during the entire film. There is no sense of urgency to save their lives. The characters reacted so poorly, i actually had anxiety watching this one. In the end i was rooting for the shark

Well after watching countless,movies about the ocean ,I did not think I would ever in my life see anything as bad as this tripe....It would have to be the worst ever made ,and Australia must feel embarrassed after this hit the screen ..There were so many nautical stuff ups,,And the acting was pathetic,.eg A great white is circling them and there all smiling ,,If these actors ever appear in another ,I,m leaving ..

All I can say is the characters were so annoying and acted so moronically that I found myself rooting for the shark.

Once... Just ONCE I want to see a film with characters I care about. It is not enough to have a shark eat someone. I have to care. And I can't remember the last time I cared.

This movie sucks! It's two-thirds filler and almost no action. That "You wouldnt steal a car..." piracy ad from the 2000s is more enjoyable than this. The scariest thing about this movie is that people think it's good. I should have known after turning off the same director's BLACK WATER after 5 mins.

BAIT is much better Aussie shark flick.

Slowest pace movie abt sharks on the earth do not watch.
