"We gotta speak up for those who can't speak up for themselves"

It's a staple of cop shows that first responders never know what they're walking into when they answer a call. And 'Fixing a Hole' is another exhibit for the court. In this case, the horrifying subject of child abuse is cleverly composed as a missing child case. those scars run deep for Cooper.

This is compelling from start to finish, whether it's Sammy's ever more confused situation with his partner's family, his own thirst for street justice, or Cooper's focused effort to find out where this kid came from. That avenue leads to an unbelievably sad end (and so does Sammy's) but it also offers serious character development on both fronts.

Geez, the writing on this show.

As Sammy comes up on Leprechaun (who is down in the oil change pit), you can see the shadow of the camera and the cameraman coming up behind Sammy (revealing that he has a gun pointed at Leprechaun.

Detective Renee McBride: Look, I appreciate the great work that you've done in spotting him, okay? I really do. But now it's my case. And expert care is what this child needs.

Officer John Cooper: Expert care? What? Expert, you?

Detective Renee McBride: [indignantly] I have a Masters degree in Child Psychology.

Officer John Cooper: And I got a Ph.D. in street. Who gives a shit?

Detective Renee McBride: And 20 years experience.

Officer Ben Sherman: [trying to intervene] John. John...

Officer John Cooper: Oh! 20 years! You know what, I don't care. That kid is telling the truth and you're too fucking lazy to do your job.

        [screams in her face]

Officer John Cooper: Do your fucking job!
