Sorry but if I had to do a three word only review for this show it would easily be just a simply "it wasn't funny" and that is a really bad thing for a comedy show obviously. The characters were annoying and unbelievable, one or possibly even zero dimensions of depth to them, and nobody in the entire show could in any way tell a joke to make it funny at all.
The stories were stupid and this show was about one one billionth as interesting and funny as Corner Gas which I have to be honest is not saying much.
Why are comedy shows so much better in the states?

The town of Wessex is having an election with long-time mayor Bud Calgrove running without any opposition. Dan Phillips (Fred Ewanuick) is a slacker bartender at Fern's. His ex-girlfriend Claire Kendall tells him that she's marrying Mike. In response, Dan tells her that he's running for mayor. When Calgrove is killed by a bus, Dan's joke candidacy is no longer such a joke. Deputy mayor Alan Duffy is out to stop him. His best friend Jeff works at Swifty Copy. The second season has Dan starting his job as the new mayor.
This is a mildly amusing Canadian sitcom. Ewanuick is a good comedic actor and half of the cast are doing good. The problem is that the other half is flat and lacking. Those supporting characters and actors have no charisma. The second season has the show trimming down to the better main cast but the humor never rises above mildly amusing.

I'm really happy this show has been renewed. I'm not nutty about any of the individual actors except Fred, but as an ensemble they somehow make the corny overdrama work. This effort is greatly assisted by the theme music which absolutely perfectly captures the feeling of the show.
After watching every episode, I feeling tickled and lighter. I think the tone of the show is uniquely Canadian. Even though it is nothing like Kids in the Hall, it reminds me of the perception created by the Kids that you are watching quintessential Canadiana (in a good way).
I hope they can keep up the pace, because I'd really like this show to last.

I'm sad that I did not like this show more. I gave it enough of a chance it is the end of season one and I have seen every episode except one. The jokes in all those episodes have not made me laugh once and I find ever single character to be annoying and poorly acted. The most annoying thing to me is that Fred Ewanwuick has not changed his character one bit from when he was Hank on Corner Gas (sorry if I'm spelling it wrong but that last name's a tough one). I was a Corner Gas fan so even though I didn't think the previews for these shows made it look like they were very good, and even when friends told me Hiccups and Dan For Mayor were both terrible, I hoped my gut feeling was somehow wrong and I would like these shows. No such luck. Ever since episode one I have been very disappointed with both shows, equally disappointed in how bad and unfunny they are. The characters in both shows are just terrible! I can't believe they got a season two but I hope they can somehow turn both shows around so that they are good, I don't see how that's possible though even if they replace all the writers and start getting good writing like Corner Gas had the characters are a huge problem.
This show is boring. The jokes are painful, it is even worse than the last season of Corner Gas where it was just in the same rut of doing the same predictable jokes again and again. First of all, the main character of Dan is basically just Hank without the baseball cap. I mean literally, he plays e x a c t l y the same character he did in Corner Gas except he is not wearing a hat. That is the only difference. He is a complete moron who has his head up in the clouds. The basic plot of the show has him running for mayor to try to impress people, then I guess it's supposed to be really funny because he is an idiot and screws things up. The supporting cast is also very bad but you can't blame them with material as bad as this. This show was a huge mistake and it's a toss up for me whether this is worse or Hiccups is, both of these shows are just awful.
