When (almost) everybody does the right thing

Castle is overall a fun series, but the writing on this episode is particularly brilliant.

The nature of the crime is especially inventive and revealed in the show's characteristicaly humorous fashion.

The weaving together of so many love stories is magical. Castle and his daughter Alexis, Castle and his ex-wife, Castle's ex-wife and Alexis, the ex-drug lord and his caretaker. The star-crossed couple central to the episode, and, of course, Becket and Castle with the magical touch at the end of the episode.

Then there's the. Double whammy of the tragic ending due to someone's reasonable but fatal misinterpretation of events and the happy ending brought about only through the tragedy and transformed by the good-heartedness of the main characters.

This episode makes all my writer's bones just tingle with satisfaction.

      [last lines]

Javier Esposito: That was a nice thing you guys did in there.

Richard Castle: I just thought that after everything Greg did for her, they deserved a chance. Besides, if it were you and I in Amy's shoes, we'd still be rotting in prison.

Javier Esposito: Huh. Speak for yourself, bro. I'd escape.

Richard Castle: What, you'd just leave me in there?

Javier Esposito: It's the law of the jungle. I gotta look out for numero uno.

Richard Castle: Wow. Nothing like a hypothetical prison term to let you know who your friends really are.

Kate Beckett: [walking by] Don't worry, Castle. I'd get you out.

[Castle looks startled as she continues to walk away. then she turns around]

      Kate Beckett: You coming?

      Richard Castle: Yeah.
