The film follows Conan, Ran, and their friends aboard a state-of-the-art airship, where Kaitou Kid plans to stage his next daring heist. Yet the story quickly escalates when a terrorist organization hijacks the vessel, threatening passengers with bioweapons while concealing their true agenda. Conan must untangle Kid's illusions, the terrorists' schemes, and the hidden motives behind the chaos-all within the confined space of the floating fortress.

Analytically, the film thrives on its claustrophobic setting, where the blending of crime, spectacle, and psychological pressure intensifies the suspense. The aerial backdrop emphasizes themes of vulnerability and human fragility when isolated above the clouds. Kid's presence adds charm and rivalry, but his role leans more toward theatrical distraction than meaningful interplay in the mystery. While the premise promises a complex entanglement of heist and terror, the resolution simplifies matters, relying heavily on action-driven sequences and large-scale confrontation rather than deduction. Supporting characters remain underutilized, with emotional beats overshadowed by spectacle.

Rating: 6/10 - visually thrilling and ambitious in scope, The Lost Ship in the Sky offers high-altitude tension and flashy illusions, but its mystery remains thin, favoring spectacle over the sharp deductive depth that defines the best of the Conan films.

A spectacular addition to the investigative Conan film series, "Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in the Sky" blends high-flying action with the defining characteristics of Conan's investigative stories. Yasuichiro Yamamoto is the director of this picture, which follows young investigator Conan Edogawa and his friends as they work their way through a scheme to seize a cutting-edge airship. The story develops with the ideal balance of action, suspense, and deduction, highlighting Conan's deductive skills while preserving the cast's friendship. Superb animation quality creates exciting action scenes and amazing aerial views. In addition to pleasing die-hard fans, the movie provides newcomers to the series with an engrossing stand-alone experience.

I have seen 16 of the 17 Detective Conan movies that have been released so far and out of all of them this one is by far my favourite.

So what's the story about? Well here is a little summary that I've written while avoiding spoilers:

The movie opens with a terrorist group breaking into a laboratory and steal a a deadly bacteria, later declaring themselves to be a group of terrorists known as the Red Siamese Cats who were destroyed 10 years ago. At the same time, wealthy adviser Jirokichi Suzuki has devised another plan to capture the infamous Phantom Thief, Kaitou Kid, baiting him with a jewel known as Lady Sky aboard his airship. To witness his battle against Kid, Jirokichi invites his niece Sonoko Suzuki and her friends, Ran Mouri, Kogoro Mori, Professor Agasa, the Detective Boys and of course, the protagonist, Conan Edogawa. However, while on board the airship the passengers realise that they are in for more than they bargained for and it is up to Conan to once again save the day, however this time, he has an unexpected ally.

As simple as the story sounds, it really is well made and leaves the viewer with a great feeling of satisfaction after the movie has ended (there is also a clip after the credits by the way.) The story has a flow to it without leaving much plot holes, the characters each have there own moment where the audience can connect with them and the soundtrack is superb as always.

Even if you are not a fan of Detective Conan, I would definitely recommend watching this movie.
