After a somewhat enjoyable episode 3, episode 4 is completely derailed.

I actually found myself enjoying the previous episode, but I'm here on episode 4 finding myself annoyed at the constant sex jokes that have no relevance to the plot. Alan and Jake are both becoming stereotypes of their characters a year ago. One dimensional people - Alan is a sponge, that's it. Jake is stupid - that's it. Berta still manages to be funny here, probably the only reason this episode isn't a 2/10. Walden can be entertaining at times, but in this episode he's just a child. Even last episode, he had some ability to be an adult (albeit infrequently) but here it's completely gone. I'm hoping they can pick up the pace sometime soon before the whole show derails.

Forget story, let's just go for sex jokes

Having established the Ashton Kutcher character and how he interacts with the other main characters it was now time for the writers to give him actual story lines! This episode is pretty standard of 'Two and a half Men' at this stage of its run. It's bawdy, it's obsessed with sex, but there are some good lines in there along the way.

Jon Cryer if anything is carrying the show by this point, surprisingly more so than Kutcher. I don't like the fact they've made his character such a sponger, but I think that's a drop in the ocean at this point.

The once mighty show is falling quickly.

    • Trivia
In the title sequences seen beginning in this season, as the principals sing the theme song into the microphone, Jake (Angus T. Jones) appears on the left (where Charlie used to stand), and Walden (Ashton Kutcher) rises in the middle behind the mic (as Jake did in past seasons). Also, the voices of the singers are changed slightly, apparently to match Jake's maturity and Walden's new character. (In the DVD extras, one commentator explains that Jake is now 'grown up', and Walden is the character that qualifies as 'Half Man' as the show continues with the same title as before.)

Alan Harper: We had to sell the house in Malibu.

Lyndsey: So where are you living?

Alan Harper: The house in Malibu.

      Lyndsey: Wait, what?

Alan Harper: Oh, it's actually a funny story. Uh, the fellow who bought it is actually an incredibly rich internet guy who went through a bad divorce, and he's lonely and needs a friend, so he asked me to stick around for a while.

      Lyndsey: What's the funny part?

Alan Harper: He actually thinks I'm gonna leave someday.

CHUCK LORRE PRODUCTIONS, #357 I've just learned that 96% of the universe is made up of stuff we don't understand, can't measure, and, until very recently, didn't even know existed. Personally, I find this extremely reassuring. A big mystery in my life is finally solved. I mean, think about it. What chance did both of my marriages have when we were all so clueless regarding the fundamental nature of everything? On a very deep, quantum level, I feel vindicated. In fact, I'm thinking of sending a note to both exes. Something along the lines of, "I told you that dark energy wasn't just coming from me. It was in you, the coffee table, your mother - it was all around us. Goo goo g'joob, baby!"
