I am watching the series in 2021, starting from S1E1 onward. When back in season 7 Michael (the main character, actor Steve Carell) had left the show, I thought, ok it was dead, but then we realized that some of the remaining cast like Jim and Dwight, and Andy (Ed Helms) all great actors, were capable to continue holding the fort. In addition they brought in heavy weights in acting like James Spader (albeit pre-blacklist), etc, so ok we thought maybe it could stand on its own as such. But starting from this episode, for me, I realized, that's it, they're broke and they've had their moments, it's about time this goes to bed. So it doesn't surprise me that this is one of just a few episodes before season 9 which was the last season. That being said, I am writing this negative review and I know the review process is inherently biased, because if I am giving this episode and maybe the next few ones < 5/10, but the previous 7 seasons, 100s of episodes would have gotten 10/10 for me, they were great (I just couldn't be ar*ed to write a glowing review every time).
There is a fine line between being lovable idiot and truely obnoxious, Steve Carell knew that line. Since the character Nellie became regular on the show, it was bad just bad. Her character is just annoyingly obnoxious. The character isn't funny and it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
If you ask me, I would say watch this amazing series untill season 7 and don't bother with the rest.
You can clearly see how much the show changed if you watch it back to back. All funny and hilarious situations went downhill after season 7. What a shame!
I would give the previous seasons 8/10 but I would give season 7, 3/10.

- TriviaDuring the cold open when Ryan is freaking out about the death of Smokey Robinson, Jim agrees by saying, "I second that emotion," to emphasize the fact that Ryan doesn't really know Smokey's music. "I Second That Emotion" is a 1967 song written and performed by Smokey Robinson.
- GoofsAs the woman at the microphone is introducing Robert California, there is a shot of table #5 from behind with Jim, Kevin on his right, and an empty chair where Pam would be sitting on Jim's left. In the very next shot, Pam is suddenly back in her seat next to Jim.
